Job Title: Machine Operator

Job Description

As a Machine Operator, you will be responsible for setting up and operating bag machines and supporting equipment to convert HDPE film into bags. You will also operate extrusion lines, ensuring adherence to job safety analysis, standard operating procedures, and quality procedures. Your role includes troubleshooting issues, performing quality checks, and documenting processes.

Responsibilities

• Setup and operate two bag machines and support equipment to convert HDPE film into bags.
• Accurately navigate and input information in a production management system.
• Understand printing job requirements by the specifications.
• Set up the bag machine line by loading film and adjusting for size.
• Mount cylinders, adjust pressure, tension, and distribution of ink.
• Troubleshoot stoppages and breakdowns; communicate clearly and accurately with appropriate personnel.
• Perform quality checks of material being produced and complete related documentation.
• Operate extrusion lines in accordance with job safety analysis, standard operating procedures, quality procedures, and operator training to meet or exceed productivity requirements and minimize downtime and waste.
• Ensure that proper materials are being used in accordance with procedures.
• Monitor roll weights to ensure the correct gauge is maintained throughout the shift.
• Assure proper processing and labeling.

Essential Skills

• Experience in machine operation (1-3 years ideal, but willing to train).
• Troubleshooting skills.
• Experience with start-up and changeover processes.
• Knowledge of extrusion processes.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Ability to stand constantly for 12 hours or more.
• Ability to walk constantly for 12 hours or more.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull weights ranging from 0-49 lbs for 8-10 hours.
• Ability to perform repetitive motions, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, reaching, and grasping regularly/constantly for 8-10 hours.

Work Environment

The work environment consists of a rotating shift schedule with 12-hour shifts from 7AM to 7PM and 7PM to 7AM (ABCD rotation). It is a challenging environment that is hot, dirty, without windows, and has an odor of burnt plastic.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Richmond, Virginia.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr.
