Responsibilities:

  • Understand and abide by all Company safety rules, regulations, and policies. Ensure that safe and sanitary working conditions are maintained in the facility in accordance with Company standards, as well as state & federal laws and regulations. Know and understand your OSHA rights. Conduct safety training topics as required or needed. Responsible for attending all assigned safety meetings, toolbox talks, and safety training sessions. As required, promptly investigate accidents and near misses, completing appropriate reports and taking action to eliminate root causes.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the machine shop, including CNC milling, CNC lathe and other machining processes.
  • Work with Production Scheduler to prioritize work orders based on customer needs and minimize changeover times.
  • Review blueprints, specifications, and sample parts to determine raw material requirements.
  • Oversee the maintenance, repair, and calibration of machining equipment.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance productivity, reduce waste, and optimize machining processes.
  • Ensure the shop adheres to safety regulations and maintains a safe working environment.
  • Maintain quality control systems to ensure products meet specifications.
  • Provide written reports to management on production status and progress.
  • Directly supervise machinists, ensuring they meet production targets, maintain quality standards, and follow safety procedures.
  • Train and mentor machinists on new technologies, processes, and safety protocols.
  • Oversee the training program and work with the CNC supervisors to develop new talent.
  • Conduct performance reviews, set goals, and manage personnel issues.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments, including engineering, maintenance, production planning, and quality control, to ensure smooth operations.
  • Understand and utilize CNC programming software to optimize machining processes.
  • Interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to plan and execute machining operations.
  • Possess a strong understanding of various machining processes, materials, and tooling.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose issues with machining equipment and processes.
  • Drive continuous improvement efforts in the machining department, including implementing lean manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Work directly with the Machine shops at the other facilities to balance workload and maximize output between the facilities.

Qualifications: (education, experience, skills, personal attributes):

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • 5 years experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Familiar with machining, tooling, equipment and processes including programming
  • Experience in workflow analysis, lean and problem-solving procedures including Six Sigma
  • Familiar with applicable regulations such as OSHA, EPA, and ADA
  • Ability to be flexible with shifts, hours, and assignments
  • Must possess good communication skills and be capable of working effectively with others, either individually or in a group setting.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products
  • Process simulation software knowledge a plus
  • Travel Required
