A Brief Overview

To accurately code and process medical records for Outpatients on a timely basis for all Outpatient Services

What You Will Do

  • Identifies and accurately codes hospital discharge records for purpose of reimbursement, research and statistics in compliance with federal regulations according to diagnosis, operations and procedures using ICD-10-CM classification
  • References the entire medical record documentation in order to accurately complete the coding on each account
  • Appropriately queries the physicians and ancillary departments for clarification of diagnosis and/ or procedures in order to ensure coding accuracy
  • Monitors DNFB on a daily basis to reach projected goal
  • Meets productivity standards for Outpatient coding

Education Qualifications

  • High School Diploma Required and
  • Formal HIM education Preferred

Experience Qualifications

  • 1-3 years One to two years Outpatient coding experience in a Hospital setting Required

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Knowledge of ICD10-CM and CPT-4 coding, Medical Terminology, and Anatomy and Physiology required

Licenses and Certifications

  • CCS-Certified Coding Specialist Required or
  • (CPC) Required or
  • COC Required
