Position Description & Details

Bismarck State College is a leading educational institution dedicated to providing high-quality academic programs that prepare students for success in their chosen fields. We are currently seeking an experienced and dynamic Assistant Dean to assist and lead our Current and Emerging Technologies Department and ensure the delivery of academically rigorous programs.

As the Assistant Dean, you will play a critical role in ensuring student success and maintaining the highest standards of academic excellence. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Academic Leadership: Lead the academic department by setting and upholding high standards for faculty and academic programs, fostering a culture of excellence and improvement.
  • Curriculum Development: Create, enhance, and update curricula to meet industry standards and trends and ensure that students receive the best possible education and training.
  • Faculty Management: Recruit, develop, and manage faculty members, both full-time and adjunct, to ensure they meet or exceed required qualifications, providing guidance and support.
  • Student Success: Promote and achieve student success outcomes by implementing effective strategies and support services. Monitor student performance and implement interventions as needed.
  • Administrative Expertise: Demonstrate strong administrative skills, including effective budgeting, planning, and organizational abilities. Ensure efficient departmental operations.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other departments, administration, and support areas to enhance the overall educational experience for students, fostering an inclusive environment.
  • Communication: Deliver excellent presentations and effectively communicate the college's mission and vision to various audiences. Prepare reports and documents as needed.
  • Technological Proficiency: Utilize computer software, including Microsoft Office Suite, and stay updated with technology trends to enhance teaching and administrative processes.
  • Project Management: Manage multiple concurrent projects and meet assigned deadlines effectively.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and four years of related administrative experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in promoting and achieving student success outcomes.
  • Effective management, leadership, supervisory, organizational, budgeting, and planning skills.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in working with faculty, administration, staff, and other support areas.
  • Excellent presentation skills and the ability to promote the college mission and vision to a variety of audiences.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and proficiency in preparing reports and documents.
  • Proficiency with computer software (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite—Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook, etc.) and strong Internet familiarity.
  • Demonstrated organizational, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple concurrent projects and meet assigned deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience with curriculum and course development, distance/online education, academic assessment, and prior learning outcomes.
  • Experience teaching at the college level in online and face-to-face modalities.
  • Experience working with industry.
  • Working in a higher education environment with recruitment, enrollment, retention, completion, and instructional management experience.
