Job Description

The S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University is seeking an individual to teach PRL 315.3 Public Relations Research on Mondays/Wednesdays 12:45pm-2:00pm during the Fall 2025 semester (3 credits).

Course Description:Public Relations Research is a three-credit hour course which introduces students to a variety of research methodologies to develop and execute a successful public relations research plan. Basic elements include secondary and primary research, qualitative and quantitative methods, and data analysis. Thecourse will also introduce students to digital analytics. The course is divided into two parts. Part I introduces how research is applied to the methods and the practice of public relations. Students will learn about original research methodology from the textbook, the instructor ’s handouts and lectures. Part II of the course will involve completing the study of research methods and designing, completing, and presenting public relations research.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred. Prior teaching experience at the university level preferred but not mandatory.

Responsibilities

It is understood that teaching assignments may include the following:

  • Developing a syllabus.
  • Ordering in advance books and materials for students in the class to purchase on or before the first day of classes.
  • Preparing for classes.
  • Holding office hours each week to meet with students in the class and others.
  • Grading in a timely manner student assignments and examinations for the course; and turning in mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to instruct the class on the days and times it is designated to meet.
  • Ability to hold office hours on campus.
  • Ability to grade all assignments and examinations.

Tools/Equipment

Ability to operate standard classroom instructional technology, which may

include computer, projector, document camera, etc.
