Job Description

The Laboratory Section Operations Manager is responsible for monitoring laboratory operations on a daily basis to ensure quality levels of performance are maintained and compliance with applicable regulations.

The core lab manager will have responsibility over the day to day operations of the core lab (chemistry, hematology, coag, and urinalysis). Supervisors in these areas will report to this individual.

Schedule: Monday through Friday; dayshift

Responsibilities

The Laboratory Section Operations Manager is responsible for monitoring laboratory operations on a daily basis to ensure quality levels of performance are maintained and compliance with applicable regulations.

  • Responsible for the enrollment and participation in appropriate proficiency programs for all services performed.
  • Ensures that the quality control program is effective and corrective actions are taken when necessary and that results are not

reported until systems are properly functioning.

The Laboratory Section Operations Manager is responsible for staff planning and oversees scheduling to meet service demands.

  • Ensures that qualified and licensed staff are scheduled based on services required.
  • Provides an orientation and training to personnel and that the competence of personnel is assessed and improved.
  • Encourages staff self-development and learning. Practices personnel management according to corporate Human Resources

guidelines, policies and procedures including hiring, scheduling staff to meet work demands, counseling, and separation of

employees.

  • Ensures Performance management program is implemented and maintained for the laboratory in a timely manner including

orientation and training, evaluating competencies, and coaching plans, disciplinary action and maintaining current job descriptions.

  • Assists with planning and developing departmental operational goals.

Qualifications

Education/Training

Graduate from an accredited school of Laboratory Technology. Bachelor’s Degree in related field. Completion of one year clinical laboratory training internship, plus Medical Technologist (MT), Histotechnologist (HT) or Cytotechnologist (CT) by American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) registry or eligible. Computer knowledge including Laboratory Information System (LIS), Hospital

Information System (HIS), and personal computers. Assumes the responsibility for professional growth and development and continuing education.

Licensure/Certification

Current license as a Supervisor in the specialty/specialties required by the laboratory section in the State of Florida. Certified by a professional laboratory-certifying agency, i.e. by the American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) or eligible.

Experience

Five (5) years of Clinical Laboratory experience is required to include one (1) year of supervisory experience.
