School bus driving is a part-time job.
Bus Drivers and Substitute Bus Drivers need to be available at 6:00 a.m. for driving. Extracurricular driving may go as late as 11:00 p.m.
If you require a CDL (Class B) endorsement, we will provide Classroom and Behind the Wheel Training; Skills Test Training; DOT Physical and Drug Screening; and First Aid\CPR training at no cost to you.
Evergreen School District will pay $20.00/per hour for up to 40 hours of classroom training and up to 40 hours of behind-the-wheel training.
Classroom training takes approximately 40 hours. Behind the wheel training takes approximately 20 hours. CDL skills training takes approximately 10 hours. These hours are divided over the course of 10-14 days.
Listed below are costs that may be incurred by those seeking a bus-driving position with Evergreen Public Schools. These costs will be reimbursed to substitute drivers after 90 working days.
CDL Permit Fee - $40.00
CDL License Testing Fee - $140.00
Fingerprint background check - $85.00
CDL New License - $27.00 - $146.00
Five Year Driving Abstract - $15.00
Additional Information:
A five-year driving abstract is required.
Proof of U.S. Citizenship or lawful permanent residency is required (i.e. Valid U.S. Passport, Government Issued Birth Certificate, Permanent Resident Card "Green Card", Certificate of Naturalization, Certificate of Citizenship, or a Consular Report of Birth Abroad).

Substitute employees may accrue sick leave at the rate of one (1) hour of sick leave for every 40 hours worked under Washington State Law. Upon working 630 hours in a school year, substitutes may be eligible for insurance benefits through School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB) which includes medical, dental, vision, long-term disability, life and AD&D insurance.

SUMMARY STATEMENT:
The school bus driver is responsible to safely transport the students and other authorized persons of Evergreen Public Schools on regular home to school routes and on field, extra-curricular, and special or extra activity trips as authorized by school district officials. The School Bus Driver is also responsible to operate buses in all types of weather conditions, including but not limited to fog, rain, hail, snow, sleet, and ice. Evergreen Public Schools encompasses 54 square miles.
