Advertised Job Summary

The University of South Carolina’s Division of Information Technology is seeking a Senior Tableau Developer to join our dynamic analytics team.

This role will be critical in advancing the University’s analytics platform, Carolina Analytics, which is powered by Tableau Server. As a Senior Tableau Developer, you will work closely with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, business analysts, and IT professionals, to deliver high-quality, data-driven insights that support decision-making at all levels of the University.

This position is on-site in Columbia, SC.

Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience

Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job related field and 2 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.

Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Tableau development, including experience with Tableau Server and Tableau Desktop.
  • Proven experience in creating complex and dynamic Tableau dashboards that drive strategic insights.
  • Strong SQL skills with experience in querying large datasets.
  • Familiarity with data integration, ETL processes, and data warehousing concepts.
  • Experience in optimizing Tableau Server performance and maintaining user security protocols.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and lead projects, as well as collaborate within a team.
  • Tableau Certification (Tableau Desktop Certified Professional or Tableau Server Certified Associate).
  • Experience in higher education or public sector analytics.
  • Knowledge of other analytics tools and programming languages such as Python, R, or Power BI.
  • Experience with enterprise data platforms and cloud-based analytics solutions.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Proficiency in Tableau Desktop, Tableau Server, and Tableau Prep.
  • Expertise in SQL and relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL).
  • Knowledge of scripting languages like Python or R is a plus.
  • Familiarity with APIs and data connectors for Tableau integration.
