Primary Purpose:

To help each student participate in high school athletics, achieve a high degree of skill and appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship and an increased level of self-esteem.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree.
  • Demonstrated skill and competence in planning, organizing, and directing student athletic activities.
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate or such other credentials as may be required by the State Board for Educator Certification for this position.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Possess strong analytical, organizational, and leadership skills
  • Demonstrate effective communication, public relation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience: A minimum of 4 years’ experience as a high school Varsity Offensive/Defensive play caller.
  • High School Head Football Coaching experience preferred.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Assist the Athletic Director in coordinating the competitive sports program at the assigned high school.
  2. Support all phases of the athletic program and encourage athletes to participate in every sport in which they have talent and interest.
  3. Be responsible for ensuring that all rules, regulations, guidelines, and policies of TEA, UIL, and Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD are followed at his/her campus.
  4. Assist the athletic department, Human Resources department, and principal in recruiting and interviewing coaching personnel and follow required district personnel procedures to fill vacancies on the coaching staff at the high school.
  5. Evaluate head coaches in each sport, athletic trainers, and all assistant football coaches and approve the evaluations of all other assistant coaches by their head coach and ensure that the evaluation process is conducted according to C-FB ISD policy.
  6. Work with the principal and Athletic Director in providing information for the development of the master schedule to ensure, the most advantageous use of coaching personnel, athletic periods, conference periods, and optimum utilization of facilities.
  7. Prepare duty rosters, schedule, and secure working personnel for sub-varsity football games, basketball games, baseball games, track and wrestling meets, and other athletic events as needed.
  8. Keep the principal and Athletic Director informed of needs and problems within the athletic program.
  9. Collect, check, and forward to the athletic department the proposed schedule of interschool games and scrimmages for all sports on campus and be available to assist head coaches with scheduling, if needed.
  10. Coordinate transportation request with the athletic and transportation departments for all sports on campus.
  11. Work with head coaches to ensure that bid request and inventories for all sports are completed and turned in on time and receive and disperse equipment for all sports on campus.
  12. Assist the principal and Athletic Director in improving and maintaining the athletic fields, gymnasiums, courts, and tracks on campus.
  13. Attend all UIL District meetings with the principal and Athletic Director as a representative of the school and athletic department when requested by the administration.
  14. Promote the athletic program with the media, civic groups, booster groups, parent and school organizations and assist head coaches in promoting their teams and their sports.
  15. Work with the middle school, feeder school and coaches to develop lines of communication, coordination and continuity with the total high school sports program, with special emphasis on the transition from middle school and the retention of student athletes in the program.
  16. Work with the administration and head coaches to find ways to reduce academic athletic ineligibility.
  17. See that all coaches on campus are provided with office space, keys, office supplies, facilities, materials and equipment as needed.
  18. Ensure that all coaches have a notarized UIL “Professional Acknowledgement” form on file with the Athletic Department Office.
  19. Maintain necessary eligibility forms, physical examinations forms, grade reports, transfer forms, and insurance information relevant to student athletes.
  20. Operate the summer conditioning program.
  21. Assist the Director of Athletics during summer months.
  22. Set an appropriate example for athletes and co-workers in the areas of personal behavior, speech, dress, and good sportsmanship.
  23. Perform all other duties as deemed necessary by the Superintendent or designee
