Position Functions:

  • Dismount and remount tires on trucks and trailers.
  • Use a balancing machine to determine counterweights required to balance wheels.
  • Clean hubs and wheels to prevent corrosion.
  • Rotate and balance tires.
  • Diagnose and resolve alignment issues.
  • Perform tire repairs such as valves stem replacement, removing puncturing objects, and sealing punctures.
  • Change vehicle tires, check for proper air pressure, and inspect/repair PSI systems.
  • Identify irregular wear, high wear rates, or operational tire issues. Report findings to Corporate Tire Team.
  • Coordinate with Corporate Tire Team on inventory needs and manage onsite inventory.
  • Understand DOT OOS items and enforce compliance with DOT & USX standards.
  • Perform basic and routine preventive maintenance on tractors and trailers as outlined in USX PM guidelines.
  • Perform basic or minor repairs and inspections on brakes, tires, wiring etc.
  • Check vehicle fluids (e.g. transmission, oil, windshield wiper, antifreeze, etc.).
  • Grease mechanical parts.
  • Maintain a high productivity level and complete most jobs within or close to SRT times.
  • Travel to various remote sites to accomplish field repairs on equipment that is broken down, where relocating them to the main shop would be counterproductive.
  • Perform all repairs in various weather conditions and site environments safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain services for the company’s fleet of vehicles.
  • Evaluate safety concerns and make necessary adjustments to ensure safety during travel, and any duties performed while onsite at the various locations is always to the highest standard.
  • Test mechanical products and equipment after repair of assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturers’ specifications.
  • Efficiently account for paid time on work orders and document various steps taken throughout the repair process to ensure historical data for potential future information.
  • Ability to source needed parts when necessary and communicate with Parts Supervisor of domiciled terminal for proper payment to vendor.
  • Maintain parts inventory integrity and parts usage tracking from cradle to grave.
  • Focused on excellent customer service, and resolution oriented.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
  • Collaborate in-person with all levels of the organization to harness collective intelligence of the workforce.
  • Attend all in-person meetings and trainings on recent developments, goals, and objectives. Participate in such discussions by offering input and advice.

Regularly engage remotely and in-person with customers and potential customers to establish rapport, open communication, and expectations.

What We’re Looking For:

Education

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Technical Diploma from an accredited Diesel Technology Program preferred

Experience

  • 1+ year of mechanical experience preferred
  • Technical Diploma from an accredited Diesel Technology Program may substitute for 1 year of the required experience
  • Transportation and/or Logistics industry experience preferred

Skills & Abilities

  • Must be at least 18 years or older to work in USX Shop Environment
  • Ability to read and write
  • Must provide own tools that are adequate to perform job functions
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Personable skills (attention to details, dependability, integrity, independence, analytical thinking, initiative)
  • Basic computer skills preferred
  • Adept at assessing organizational dynamics and managing change
  • Works quickly and efficiently. Able to test solutions, learn, and iterate quickly
  • Proactive and pragmatic problem solver
  • Communicates effectively across multiple mediums

Licenses & Certifications

  • Valid driver’s license required
  • D.O.T and Brake certification required to perform PM’s and brake work
  • TIA Certification preferred
  • OEM Online certifications preferred
