Your Role

Join the Single View of Policy – Data Engineering Team - The Single View of Policy (SVOP) Data Engineering team builds and maintains the core data pipelines that power policy-related insights and decision-making across IAG.

In this role, you’ll lead the design, build, and optimisation of data pipelines that support a range of data products across the organisation. You’ll apply your expertise in SQL, dbt, and AI-driven automation to deliver scalable, reliable, and high-performing data solutions that enable strategic decision-making and continuous improvement.

Some Key Accountabilities:

• Design, build, and optimise scalable, high-performance data pipelines and marts using SQL, dbt, BigQuery, and GCP, aligned with data mesh principles
• Lead production deployments and implement automation, orchestration (e.g. Cloud Composer), and AI techniques to improve pipeline efficiency and reliability
• Drive end-to-end technical solution design, conduct in-depth code reviews, and enforce engineering and data governance best practices
• Collaborate with architects, analysts, and product teams to deliver secure, compliant, and production-ready data products
• Mentor engineers, monitor data product performance, and help define the technical standards, tooling, and practices of our growing data engineering team

This is a permanent role with exciting opportunities for growth and learning, open to candidates based in Gadigal Country (Sydney), Naarm (Melbourne).

About You

• Extensive experience (8+ years) as a data engineer, with a strong record of delivering high-quality, production-grade data pipelines and platforms
• Expert-level SQL skills, with deep experience developing and maintaining complex transformations in dbt
• Hands-on experience with GCP data tools, including BigQuery, Cloud Composer, and related services
• Strong understanding of data modelling, lineage, and performance optimisation in a cloud-native environment
• Skilled in testing, monitoring, and ensuring data quality and observability in production environments
• Comfortable leading technical design and problem-solving for complex engineering challenges
• Experienced in mentoring and uplifting engineering capability across a team
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to work across both technical and non-technical teams
• Proactive and pragmatic, with a passion for clean, scalable code and data products
• Motivated to help shape a modern, code-first data engineering function, contributing to our team culture, processes, and technical foundations as we grow
