What the Role Is

The Manager of Cost Accounting is responsible for and manages the cost accounting function across the global enterprise. This includes ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of cost-related processes, providing financial insights for decision-making, and supporting operations to optimize cost control. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership abilities, technical expertise in cost accounting principles, and a focus on process improvement.

How You Will Spend Your Time?

  • Direct and oversee the cost accounting team to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of costs related to manufacturing, inventory, overhead and other operational activities in accordance with GAAP.
  • Create and uphold robust cost accounting procedures that support dynamic product costing and profitability analysis, while ensuring alignment with financial policies and regulations.
  • Proactively monitor and scrutinize manufacturing costs fluctuations, identify opportunities for savings, and implement corrective measures promptly.
  • Perform regular variance analysis and report on cost deviations, investigate causes, and recommend actions for improvement.
  • Collaborate closely with operations, procurement, and finance/accounting teams to secure precise cost data and promote consistent cost reporting.
  • Partner with Procurement team to analyze supply agreements for contract negotiation and identifying cost-savings opportunities.
  • Generate comprehensive monthly, quarterly, and annual cost analyses, delivering insights into material, labor, and overhead expenses.
  • Provide detailed cost projections and analysis to support the budgeting and forecasting process.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements, ensuring compliance with accounting principles, policies, and regulations.
  • Actively engage in devising and executing strategies for cost management and reduction, championing efficiency and value across the organization.
  • Collaborate with senior management to provide actionable insights into pricing, margin analysis, and profitability.
  • Oversee the cost accounting system and support system improvements, ensuring accurate and reliable data flow.
  • Train, mentor, and develop team members to enhance their skills and capabilities in cost accounting.

Who You Are…

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in manufacturing cost accounting, including variance analysis, cost reporting and cost analysis
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a people leader role
  • Strong knowledge of cost accounting principles, financial reporting, and budgeting processes.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross- functional teams.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management experience.
  • Demonstrated change agent with ability to influence cross-functionally.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Advanced Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP, financial modeling).
  • Knowledge of GAAP and financial regulations.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Valued but not Required Skills and Experience:

  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CMA (Certified Management Accountant)
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or other process improvement concepts
  • Previous experience in the distilled spirits industry

While performing job duties, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, use of computer; and reach with hands and arms. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
