PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Hiring Salary: $18.65 - $23.32/hour

This is classified as VHBE (Variable Hour Benefit Eligible), where the selected candidate will work an average of 40 hours per week. The selected candidate will be eligible to elect Medical, Dental, and Vision benefits, accrue paid time off, and receive 11 paid holidays.

OVERVIEW OF POSITION / DEPARTMENT

Aurora Water is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the drinking water, sanitary sewer and storm drainage systems, treatment of drinking water and non-potable reclaimed wastewater for irrigation, billing and collection, public outreach and water conservation, acquisition and development of future water rights, major capital projects programs, and quality control for regulatory compliance and public health.

The VHBE SCADA Junior OT Systems Technician, under general supervision, performs routine to complex work involving technology installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of industrial equipment for Water Technical Operation systems. Performs preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance, installations and repair of equipment for use in Water Operation systems and performs related work as required.

This is classified as a VHNE (Variable Hour Non-Benefit Employee), this position do not provide medical benefits. The position earns sick leave in accordance with the Healthy Families and Workplace Act.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work closely with the technical operational teams such as SCADA Operational Technology (OT) Instrumentation & Controls and Electrical staff
  • Assist with development of asset management, inventory, security control implementation, security policies, system conversions, housekeeping related to facility locations, maintenance, team documentation and training
  • Assist with non-critical system upgrades, equipment replacement buildouts and sandbox test environment development
  • Act as an expediter for approvals, equipment, fleet, parts, quotes, research, tools and vendor orders
  • Assist WTO staff in both office and field settings
  • Be willing to learn and assist with documentation of network, security controls, human machine interface, design, programming, instrumentation & controls and management of Water industrial computer systems and equipment
  • Contributes to project management and documents project related information, such as but not limited to: Kickoff, Design, Project Meeting Minutes, Planning, Project updates, Task Tracking, Progress Meetings and Closeout
  • Creates standardized templates and formats for system documentation and team playbooks using Microsoft Office 365 products, SharePoint and other office tools
  • Interact and communicate directly with City of Aurora Water stakeholders, technical supervisors and internal operations staff. Escort vendors and service staff as needed in various support locations
  • Perform Technology Research & Development tasks, budget and other system support duties
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or Graduate Equivalency Degree [GED]
  • One [1] Year Applied Technology, Electronics Technology or Computer Science, Networking, Cybersecurity, Information Assurance or trade school experience

Experience:

  • Desire to learn the principles of Water Technical operations including computer hardware, software, and instrumentation

Knowledge:

  • Technology experience in electronics, electrical equipment, process control, networks, cybersecurity, cybersecurity frameworks, computer hardware (servers, switches, radios, hubs, fiber optics, firewall, etc.) and related technology equipment
  • Creative thinker who is driven by opportunities to continually improve
  • Experience in a customer support role with direct customer interaction

Skills:

  • Skilled in the use of general tools, equipment, methods, and safety practices common to assigned functions
  • Computer, device or technical component troubleshooting skills
  • In person or remote technology or customer service experience
  • Basic Microsoft Office program knowledge, (Word, Excel, Outlook, TEAMS)

Abilities:

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Must keep and maintain accurate records; and organize materials and equipment to accomplish tasks
  • Ability to meet deadlines and project schedules

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  • Valid Colorado driver’s license with a safe driving record

WORKING CONDITIONS

Essential Personnel:

  • When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.

Physical Demands:

  • Medium work: Frequent lifting no more than 50 pounds, with or without assistance, at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects
  • Considerable walking and standing
  • Frequent performance of activities requiring a full range of body movement including bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and climbing; hand/eye and hand/foot coordination for operation of tools, equipment, and vehicles
  • Vision to read manuals, record data, and monitor and observe instruments/gauges
  • Hearing, listening for troubleshooting and warning signals
  • Speech communication and presentations

Work Environment:

  • Work both indoors and outdoors. Outdoor work has exposure to all weather conditions, noise, and other environmental elements.

Equipment Used:

  • Operates tools, equipment, and vehicles common to electrical repairs and maintenance
  • Laptops and tablets
  • This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g., vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment
