Mō te tūranga | About the Role

As a Senior Platform Engineer in the Payments Engineering team, you will play a critical role in designing, building, and maintaining resilient, scalable, and secure platforms that power international payments and high-value transaction systems. You will work across virtualised and containerised environments using VMware, Kubernetes, and OpenShift, supporting Java-based applications that integrate via IBM MQ, REST, and SOAP APIs. Your expertise in infrastructure as code (IaC) using CloudBees, Terraform, and Chef, along with observability tools like Dynatrace and Splunk, will be key to ensuring system reliability and performance.

You will lead the delivery of complex platform solutions, mentor engineers, and collaborate across payments engineer to drive innovation and excellence in the payments domain.

Ngā Haepapa Matua | Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and implementation of platform solutions for international and high-value payment systems.
  • Drive delivery of engineering initiatives, ensuring quality through automated testing, performance monitoring, and readiness assessments.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to story map epics, estimate work, and manage risk to meet sprint goals.
  • Maintain and evolve infrastructure using IaC tools (Terraform, Chef, CloudBees) and Git-based workflows.
  • Ensure observability and operational excellence using Dynatrace and Splunk.
  • Promote best practices in platform engineering, including container orchestration, messaging integration, and secure API connectivity.
  • Mentor and support team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and collaboration.
  • Stay current with industry trends and apply relevant innovations to improve platform capabilities.

  • Proven experience in platform engineering within complex, high-throughput systems—ideally in payments or financial services.
  • Deep knowledge of containerisation and virtualisation technologies (Kubernetes, OpenShift, VMware).
  • Strong background in Java-based systems and integration patterns using IBM MQ, REST, and SOAP APIs.
  • Proficiency in infrastructure automation and provisioning tools (Terraform, Chef, CloudBees).
  • Expertise in observability and monitoring using Dynatrace and Splunk.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead delivery, solve complex problems, and influence across teams.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly and empathetically.
  • A collaborative mindset with a passion for mentoring and enabling others.
