Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care (UBHC), established in 1971, offers a full continuum of evidence based behavioral health and addiction services for children, adolescents, adults, and seniors throughout New Jersey. UBHC’s 1,060 experienced behavioral health professionals and support staff are dedicated to treatment, prevention, and education. UBHC, one of the largest providers of behavioral health care in the country, has a budget of $260 million and has 15 sites throughout New Jersey. Services are readily accessible and include: inpatient, outpatient, partial hospitalization, screening, crisis stabilization, family/caregiver support, community outreach and case management, supportive housing, supported employment, prevention and consultation, employee assistance programs, and a licensed therapeutic school from preschool through high school. Specialty services include the New Jersey suicide prevention helpline and peer help lines for police, veterans, active military, teachers, mothers of special needs children and child protective service workers. In FY2016, UBHC treated 16,199 consumers, had 24,502 admissions, and touched the lives of 19,441 individual callers through peer support. In addition, UBHC is the primary mental health training resource for the New Jersey departments of Human Services, Children and Families, and Corrections, delivering 16,000 trainings each year.

Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Program Coordinator for the Acute Children Department within Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care.

The primary purpose of the Program Coordinator is to coordinate and supervise day-to-day operations of School Based Program. Takes a leadership role in program planning and development. Provides clinical supervision to staff of varied disciplines. Coordinates referral process and ongoing collaboration with district personnel. Provides advanced level clinical treatment which meets quality and quantity standards. Documents this treatment appropriately and within specified time frames and ensures that all staff meet documentation requirements. Demonstrates competency in recognizing the unique needs and applying relevant treatment approaches for children (ages 0-12 years), adolescents (ages 12-17 years), and/or young adults (ages 18-21 years).

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Responsible for the strategic planning as well as programmatic and fiscal development of the program.
  • Responsible for day-to-day operations of the programs serving children (ages 3-12 years) and/or adolescents (ages 13-21 years)
  • Supervises all program personnel and assures that the program complies with all contracted, procedural, and regulatory expectations.
  • Provides clinical supervision to clinical staff to ensure that children and adolescents receive treatment interventions that meet their needs.
  • Supervises the work operations of assigned staff, develops performance standards, and conducts performance evaluations.
  • Oversees data collection and reporting of activity and utilization to facilitate quality performance and program evaluation initiatives. Assures accuracy and validity of data and reports to funding and regulatory agencies.
  • Develops a strong partnership with the school district and other constituent groups, including all entities of the New Jersey Department of Children and Families, Department of Education, and all local social services, medical, and mental health child serving agencies.
  • Builds strong coalitions of community organizations to benefit the children and families (ages birth to 18 years).

Maximum Salary 115461.00

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Master’s Degree in a behavioral health field plus four (4) years of postgraduate experience.

Certifications/Licenses

  • Applicants must possess a clinical license which allows that individual to independently provide services (LPC, LCSW, LMFT, or licensed psychologist).
  • Applicants possessing a degree in Social Work must have an active New Jersey certification/licensure as required by the State Board of Social Work.
  • Independent license to practice in New Jersey required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to work with clients and staff both individually and in groups.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One (1) year of supervisory experience.
  • Experience in working directly with children with severe and persistent mental illness, their families, and the agencies that serve them.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Extensive reading required. Lifting of up to 10 pounds. Extended periods of sitting. Hearing is essential. Ability to speak and write clearly is required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Generally pleasant and quiet work environment. Sometimes required to manage an agitated patient. May be required to travel within the state.
