Summer ESY Program – ECH Special Education - Except'l Child Svc.

Pre-K ECS (up to 3 positions)

Prep Days [NOT PD Days]: June 26, 2025

Program Dates: July 7 - July 31, 2025

Hours: 8:15am-2:15pm

Daily rate of pay (contingent upon enrollment and funding)

Under direction of the school principal and/or appropriate supervisor, the special educator will instruct students currently enrolled in 180-day Special Education classes who require reinforcement in language and social skills, consistent with the Extended School Year (ESY) services component for students’ Individual Educational Program (IEP).

EDUCATION TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

RIDE Requirements:

  • Sp. Ed. PK-12 Severe Profound or
  • All Grades Sp. Ed. - Severe Intellectual Disability Grades PK-12

ESL Preferred

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS STANDARDS:

  • Implement school to home strategies to maintain consistent attendance at ESY program.
  • Completes all aspects of self-help and social skill development.
  • Completes documentation of progress as it relates to IEP goals and objectives.
  • Completes summary report to include progress and continued need for skill development.
  • Completes any/all duties assigned by the Office of Specialized Instruction and Services Administrators.
  • Monitor daily student attendance and implement strategies to increase student attendance at ESY.
  • Collect ESY data both as written documentation.
  • Must commit to work all days of ESY program.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND CURRICULAR LINKAGES:

  • Demonstrated ability to use and understand sign language
  • Extensive coursework and/or experience in the education of the mild/moderately disabled population including development of Individual Educational Program (IEPs) for students
  • Experience working with families of severe/profound disabled students specifically with implementing community-based programs that carry over to classroom activities
  • Knowledge of current research and teaching strategies for the mild/moderately disabled
  • Knowledge and experience with students who require alternative language systems (e.g. sign, total communication, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to use and teach signing within the instructional program
  • Experience and/or ability in establishing and implementing a language-based curriculum using functional activities
  • Knowledge of activities and classroom structure that enhances the development of communication systems
  • Knowledge of techniques that address the development of positive social behavior
  • Ability to collaborate and work as a team with service providers within the classroom setting
  • Successful experience working effectively with special education students and their families according to IEP requirements
