Summer ESY Program – High School Special Education – Autism

High School - Mild/Moderate Autism (up to 1 position)

Prep Days [NOT PD Days]: June 26, 2025

Program Dates: July 7 - July 31, 2025

Hours: 8:15am-2:15pm

Daily rate of pay (contingent upon enrollment and funding)

Under direction of the school principal and/or appropriate manager, the special educator will instruct students currently enrolled in 180-day Special Education autism specialized classes who require reinforcement in language and social skills, consistent with the Extended School Year (ESY) services component for students’ Individual Educational Program (IEP). The high school teacher will run a 5 day academic program (some students will attend social skills groups 2 days per week)

  • Sec. Grades Sp. Ed. Teacher, Gr. 7-12 with Any Sec. Content or
  • Mid./Sec. Sp. Ed. 7-12

ESL Preferred

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS STANDARDS:

  • Demonstrated ability to use visual schedules and supports
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize sensory needs and interventions for students on the Autism spectrum
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize and create opportunities for incidental learning
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize ABA strategies including the design and implementation of discrete trial training
  • Demonstrated ability to create social stories to address social deficits
  • Coursework and/or experience in the education of students on the autism spectrum including development of Individual Educational Program (IEPs) for this population
  • Experience working with families of students on the autism spectrum, specifically with implementing community-based programs that carry over to classroom activities
  • Knowledge of current research and teaching strategies for students on the autism spectrum

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND CURRICULAR LINKAGES:

  • Monitor daily student attendance and implement proactive strategies to increase student attendance at ESY.
  • Implement school to home strategies to maintain consistent attendance at ESY program.
  • Maintains documentation of levels of prompting required to complete activities of daily living
  • Creates task analysis sequences for academic learning and activities of daily living
  • Creates data collection systems for discrete trial trainings
  • Implements behavior support plans as created by BCBA staff
  • Collects data related to behavior support systems
  • Creates visual schedules and other visual supports to assist in academic and behavioral learning
  • Identifies and has available to students the items needed for sensory input throughout the day
  • Completes individual student summary reports to document progress, maintenance of previously learned skills, and continued need for skill development.
  • Completes any/all duties assigned by the Executive Director of Specialized Instruction and Services/Supervisors of Special Populations.
  • Collect, complete and analyze ESY data both as written documentation and also input into a web-based program.
  • Must commit to working all days of ESY program.
  • Integration of social skills (taught during social skills lessons) throughout the school day.
