This role plays a critical role in the district’s ambitious plan to transform PPSD’s facilities. While supporting the district’s full range of facilities-related work, the Director helps to lead the day-to-day management of the district’s custodial, maintenance, and grounds work. In addition, the DIRECTOR OF FACILITIES helps support district-wide initiatives related to facilities.

The role is housed in the Plant Maintenance office and oversees two plant maintenance coordinators.

The Providence Public School District (PPSD) serves approximately 22,000 students attending our 37 schools. PPSD employs more than 3,200 professionals who work in and provide support to our schools, which include 20 elementary schools, 7 middle schools, 11 high schools and 2 public district charter schools. Of our employees, approximately 2,000 are educators, and more than 600 others directly support students and families in our schools.

Our schools are diverse learning communities. Approximately 68% of our students are Latinx, 15% Black, 7% White, 4% Asian, 5.5% Multi-racial and 1% Native American. Approximately 40% of students are multilingual learners, and about 16% of students receive special education services. Approximately 55% of students come from homes where English is not the primary language spoken. Combined, our students and families speak more than 55 different languages and hail from 91 countries of origin

REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Facilities and Capital Planning

EDUCATION TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • An Associate's degree is required, a Bachelor’s degree is preferred
  • 5-7 years of experience in Facilities Management, Procurement, contracts, vendor management
  • Multi-site facilities management required; management of educational facilities preferred
  • Experience directly managing full range of workplace facility services through reconfiguration and expansion
  • Exceptional communication, presentation and negotiation skills
  • Ability to achieve goals through influencing, partnering and developing relationships with leadership and other key stakeholders across the business
  • Strong analytical ability and experience utilizing Excel and other MS Office tools.
  • Capital project management experience
  • Experienced with understanding job specifications and drawings
  • Thrive in a deadline driven industry
  • Bilingual candidates are preferred

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND CURRICULAR LINKAGES:

Team and vendor management

  • Serve as main district point of contact for district’s integrated facilities management contract.
  • Serves as the district’s expert on the IFM contract, ensuring vendor is meeting all requirements and performance requirements.
  • Meets frequently with key IFM vendor leadership and holds vendor accountable for meeting IFM contract specifications.
  • Schedule and supervise plant maintenance coordinators to ensure high-quality support to schools.
  • Ensures staff receives training related to specific job tasks and responsibilities.

Facilities management, initiatives and projects

  • Develop, implement, and supervise preventative maintenance and renovation programs for buildings, grounds, mechanical and electrical, utility, and safety and security systems.
  • Responds to urgent/emergency facilities incidents.
  • Develop systems to ensure facilities issues raised by principals and school staffmembers are addressed quickly.
  • Direct, schedule, and oversee external contractors (electricians, plumbers, excavators, roofers, painters, landscapers, etc.).
  • Prepare specifications for facility projects; estimates costs of equipment, materials, labor, and supplies; prepare bid specifications for projects, equipment, and contracted services; oversee site and building projects performed by outside contractors.
  • Lead safety and security efforts to ensure we are constantly providing a safe workplace for our team members.
  • Ensures district facilities are ready for the opening and closing of the school year.
  • Support district capital projects as needed.

Budget and finances

  • Develop and monitor Facilities budget.
  • Review all facilities invoices

Collaboration and communication

  • Develop and manage communication channels, to ensure cohesive communications across all sites
  • Partner closely with support teams (Finance, HR)
  • Other duties as needed
