The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is actively looking to hire a Park Resource Ranger to join their team. This role involves a diverse range of responsibilities aimed at ensuring public safety, protecting park facilities, providing excellent visitor services, and promoting awareness of regulations within Park Region #4, which is based at Beltzville State Park. The Park Resource Ranger will work under the guidance of the DCNR Ranger Supervisor, engaging with the public and contributing to the overall management and preservation of the park's natural resources. If you are passionate about conservation and enjoy working in an outdoor environment, this is a fantastic opportunity to make a meaningful impact. Do not miss your chance to apply!
In this position, you will be responsible for ensuring public safety by patrolling the park area, either by vehicle or on foot, to identify and address any issues that could threaten the health and safety of visitors. This includes inspecting park buildings, facilities, and grounds for potential safety hazards, taking immediate corrective action, posting warnings, or implementing control measures, and promptly reporting any concerns to your supervisor. Additionally, you will monitor visitor activities to ensure the appropriate use of park facilities, securing buildings and equipment to prevent vandalism and theft.
Your role will also involve providing essential information to park visitors regarding facilities, activities, rules, regulations, policies, historical context, and environmental features, as well as nearby state parks. You will be trained to deliver emergency care, including CPR and First Aid, and assist in locating lost individuals. Utilizing the reservation system and various computer programs, you will issue permits for launching, mooring, camping, and pavilion reservations, while also managing transactions at pool facilities through a cash register.
Furthermore, you will play a key role in promoting regulation awareness by informing visitors of park policies and encouraging voluntary compliance. You will collaborate with enforcement agencies as needed and perform traffic and crowd control duties, reporting any violations of laws or park regulations to DCNR Rangers or the Park Manager. Effective communication is crucial; you will adhere to proper radio procedures, keeping radio traffic minimal while ensuring that supervisors, ranger staff, maintenance personnel, and clerical staff are informed of any park-related issues that may impact their responsibilities.
Lastly, you will be tasked with maintaining detailed monthly and daily logs that document the status and condition of facilities, equipment, and visitor safety. It is essential that all equipment, including uniforms and park vehicles, is utilized professionally and in accordance with departmental and bureau policies and procedures.
