Compensation:

Hourly Pay Range: $22.13/hour

Hours are 6:00a-6:00p. Position days/hours may vary. A negative drug screen is required as a condition of employment.

This position will work under the direction of the Director of the Behavior Crisis Stabilization Unit to provide assistance with the assessment, development, and implementation of behavioral services using Applied Behavior Analytic/Positive Behavior Support procedures for individuals admitted to the Behavior Crisis Stabilization Unit. The person in this position must be able to observe and record individual target behavior accurately to carry out assessment, treatment intervention, consultation and staff training functions; implement function-based interventions as written in the individual’s behavior support plan written by the Director or person certified to write behavior support plans; provide ongoing data collection and data analysis to determine effectiveness of treatment interventions; and must be able to communicate clearly and concisely with individuals, colleagues, clinicians, medical providers, and supervisors either through personal contact, telephone, or in written format. Additionally, this position will provide daily direct care supports, skills training objectives, and assist with the implementation and monitoring of ICF/IDD program activities for the individuals on the unit. This position will include weekend and holiday shifts. Further, if the Behavior Crisis Stabilization Unit is experiencing low census or staffing needs, the person in this position may be temporarily assigned to another area/cottage to serve as direct care staff based on facility needs.

All employees are expected to work in a harmonious and cooperative fashion with other staff to provide efficient and effective customer service: to use free time as available to assist other staff in the completion of work assignments and perform other tasks as needed; to contribute to a positive work environment through a positive, helpful, courteous demeanor towards staff, customers and the general public; and to adhere to appropriate standards of conduct regarding the use of leave, reports to work on time and in the designated fashion.

The essential functions of this position require physical strength to frequently push, pull, twist, bend, squat, walk, stand for extended periods of time, lift and/or restrain residents with or without assistance and respond to aggressive resident behavior with specific, trained techniques. Must be able to observe and respond to residents in distress.

Parsons State Hospital is funded in part by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and is subject to requirements bestowed by Federal and State levels of government conditions of participation.

Qualifications:

Minimum Required Criteria:

  • One year of experience in providing or supervising the care of individuals in a mental health or intellectual disability facility, or in an independent or transitional living setting.
  • Obtain certification as a Registered Behavior Technician through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board within 3 months of employment.

Preferred Criteria:

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, special education, or human services related field; or
  • Certified as a Registered Behavior Technician through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board; or
  • Knowledge in intellectual disability, mental illness, positive behavior support, essential lifestyle planning, and person-centered support programs; experience in providing services to persons with disabilities.
  • One-year experience planning, organizing, and directing the work of a department, program or agency. Education may be substituted as determined by the relevant agency.

Staff who operates a motor vehicle must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license.

Positions in this class require that at the time of appointment the selected candidate must take and pass a drug screening test approved by the Division of Personnel Services. Persons hired must also pass a law enforcement security clearance in compliance with policies of the Department of Aging and Disability Services.
