Summary

Under minimal supervision, leads the press crew in the operation of the presses for their respective

shift. Provides direction and ensures press crew follows company policies including standard operating

procedures as well as all safe work practices.

Essential Functions

This job description reflects management’s assignment of essential functions; it does not prescribe or restrict

the tasks that may be assigned.

  • Operates the press in a safe manner using all prescribed operation procedures, consistently

meeting or exceeding quality requirements with the minimum amount of waste.

  • Responsible for managing dot gain and controlling color in flexographic printing.
  • Responsible for mounting and remounting flexographic plates.
  • Inspects the job docket to ensure that each job is set up and run correctly, using the specified

paper and inks. Uses color standards to ensure the job is the correct color.

  • Ensures the press crew is performing job responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Ensures all jobs assigned to press shift are completed on time as scheduled by the Radius

scheduling system.

  • Inputs all data required by the shift including Radius shift punch in times as well as job start times

and completion times. Responsible to ensure Radius has all the correct data from shift.

  • Performs preventative maintenance on the press as assigned enlisting the help of the press crew

and maintenance as required.

  • Follows standard operating procedures as established by the company, performing all job

responsibilities in a safe and professional manner so to ensure the best quality production on

shift.

  • Ensures the press crew participates in any operations that are necessary to ensure a successful

shift.

  • Works with press crew to further develop printing skills; performs training required to prepare

press crew for advancement.

  • Responsible for trouble shooting problems on all flexographic presses.
  • Continuously improves all operating practices, using data to drive decisions.
  • Communicates with the Team Leader regarding shift irregularities, especially those involving

down time, quality, and press problems.

  • Communicates the ending job and shift status to the SR Lead Press Operator coming on duty.
  • Keeps up with printing industry trends and suggests new opportunities.
  • Performs other tasks as appropriate to support fellow employees in a team environment.
  • Ability to back up 2nd Press Operator as needed.
  • Maintains satisfactory attendance, to include timeliness.
  • Responsible for understanding and complying with applicable quality, environmental and safety

regulatory consideration.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate plus 6 months as a G3 2nd Press

Operator 2 OR 1 year experience as a G3 2nd Press Operator 1 OR 2.5 years of print

manufacturing experience.

  • Demonstrated mastery of 2nd Press Operator responsibilities.
  • Required to pass the Farnsworth-Munsell 100-Hue Color Vision Test with a Superior score.
  • Required to lift and move up to 48 pounds.
  • Required to work rotating shifts and overtime as necessary.
  • Experience running press independently.
  • Advanced understanding of UV and/or water base inks.
  • Advanced understanding of rotary foil stamping and embossing.
  • Advanced understanding of rotary screens.
  • Experience with flat foil stamping and embossing.
  • Advanced understanding of narrow web in-fed and out-fed web tensions.
  • Experience managing dot gain and controlling color in flexographic printing.
  • Experience mounting and remounting flexographic plates.
  • Skilled in running rewinding equipment such as a Rotoflex.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Skilled in reading, comprehending, interpreting and executing simple instructions, short

correspondence and memos.

  • Skilled in writing simple correspondence.
  • Skilled in adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing using whole numbers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • College business or printing coursework.
  • Prior experience through technical training or technical school.
  • 5 years of experience with wine/spirits label production.
  • Experience reading printed sheets using LAB readings to control color and make

recommendations to ink support personnel if color does not meet established targets.

  • Skilled in working with flexographic cleaning equipment.
  • Experience with Production Management System (Radius), Excel, Word, Access and Outlook.

While performing the duties of this job, the majority of the work time is spent standing, and frequently

walking and reaching with hands and arms. Employee is required to frequently lift and move up to 48

pounds.

Compensation

Hiring Hourly Rate: $37.98 - $44.62

Actual compensation amount paid may be lower or higher to be determined by factors other than race and gender such as the education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
