Embedded Software Engineer

Location: Onsite, Melbourne, FL

Actalent is seeking a highly motivated Embedded Software Engineer to join a cutting-edge aerospace team developing flight software for small satellite platforms and advanced avionics systems. This role offers the opportunity to work on mission-critical software that powers space applications, including on-board computers, radios, and attitude control systems.

You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary engineering team to design, develop, and optimize embedded software for spaceflight systems.

Responsibilities

  • Develop embedded software for avionics systems and satellite platforms.
  • Own the full software development lifecycle—from requirements to testing and reporting.
  • Configure and tailor real-time operating systems (RTOS) for on-board computers.
  • Integrate and test flight software on hardware platforms.
  • Build tools such as simulators, digital twins, and scripts to support development and testing.
  • Analyze system performance and support optimization efforts.
  • Collaborate with hardware and systems engineers to ensure seamless integration.
  • Support software deployment to orbit and assist with ongoing flight operations.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in C/C++, RTOS, and multi-threaded embedded systems.
  • Experience with GIT and electronics testing.
  • Familiarity with communication protocols: UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet, SpaceWire.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools (Bitbucket, Jenkins, SonarQube).
  • Scripting knowledge in Python, Ruby, or Bash.
  • Understanding of Agile methodologies and the software/hardware development lifecycle.
  • Experience in space or defense industries is a strong plus.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.
