Job Title: Phlebotomist I

Job Description

The primary role of a Phlebotomist I is to perform various assigned duties including troubleshooting, training, and providing workflow recommendations. The position involves collecting and storing specimens following established procedures and explaining the specimen collection process clearly and courteously.

Responsibilities

  • Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate areas.
  • Update patient information and collect specimens according to established procedures.
  • Clearly explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods as required.
  • Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.
  • Fully understand physicians' orders and match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
  • Verify test requisitions or computer labels against the script to ensure accuracy.
  • Package specimens for transport and store them at required temperatures.
  • Follow procedures specific to protocol to maintain specimen integrity.
  • Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
  • Attend annual department trainings.
  • Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Essential Skills

  • Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required in some states.
  • Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 0-2 years of experience in phlebotomy.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working in fast-paced environments.
  • 1+ years of relevant experience.

Work Environment

The work schedule is from 7am to 3pm, Monday through Friday, with additional hours on Saturday from 9am to 11am. This role is in a dynamic and fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $19.00/hr.
