E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park is currently seeking to hire a full time Parks Programs Services Supervisor.

The Parks Programs Services Supervisor provides a key role in the State Park experience. The Supervisor will promote and protect the natural, traditional, cultural, and historical aspects of the park while meeting the expectations of visitors with a variety of motivations. They will also be responsible for maintaining and improving the park’s hiking trail system, as well as many other recreational facilities hosted at the park. The Supervisor will work with guests and employees to ensure memorable experiences for all!

This is a full-time position. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Supervises, plans, creates, and executes recreational and interpretive programs.
• Operates and maintains recreational facilities including playgrounds, community gardens, multi-use trails, tennis and pickleball courts, and swimming pools.
• Meets budget expectations through fee-based programs and the renting of park resources to a variety of user groups.
• Schedules and supervises full- and part-time Rec Department staff and volunteers.
• Serves as Aquatic Supervisor in the Summer for the park’s 450,000+ gallon outdoor pool.

Skills and Expectations include, but are not limited to:

• Proficient at public speaking and working with varying ages and abilities.
• Excellent written communication skills.
• Landscaping and trail work experience and skills.
• Experience operating aquatics facilities.
• Experience working with youth in summer camp settings.
• Training and knowledge in popular social media outlets.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in recreation, outdoor recreation, park resource interpretation, physical education, history, environmental education, biology, forestry, botany, zoology, anthropology, archaeology, area studies, cultural studies, art history, geography, parks and recreation management or administration, sociology, paleoanthropology or a closely related field.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Two years experience as a park naturalist, park interpreter, environmental educator, conservation educator, in planned outdoor recreation, or physical education.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: A master's degree in recreation, park resource interpretation, physical education, history, environmental education, biology, forestry, botany, zoology, anthropology, archaeology, area studies, cultural studies, art history, geography, parks and recreation management or administration, sociology, paleoanthropology or a closely related field will substitute for one year of the required experience.

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Related experience as a park naturalist, park interpreter, environmental educator, conservation educator, in planned outdoor recreation or physical education, recreation, park resource interpretation, history, environmental education, biology, forestry, botany, zoology, anthropology, archaeology, area studies, cultural studies, art history, geography, parks and recreation management or administration, sociology, paleoanthropology or a closely related field will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Working Conditions

Work is primarily performed outdoors at an assigned park. Extensive contact with the public is required.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 9 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
