Position Summary:
The Industrial Machinery Mechanic II TFR (Taco Fall River) performs a variety of complex duties involved in the maintenance of machines and equipment within production areas. They work from sketches, specifications, diagrams and verbal instructions and use a wide variety of hand tools, power tools, and instruments.
Measures of Success:
- Timely completion of assigned work requests
- Accomplish preventative maintenance tasks as scheduled
- Consistently documented information for pass-down to management
- Reduced downtime through proactive identification of trends
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Performs daily maintenance of production equipment, working from the preventative maintenance (PM) program, written and verbal instructions, sketches, etc. Assists with work orders for repair and maintenance of heavy industrial machinery, such as hydraulic assembly machines, welding and fabrication equipment, cranes and hoists, and CNC machining and fabrication equipment.
- Troubleshoots machinery utilizing general knowledge of industrial machinery, machinery drawings, electrical and hydraulic systems and diagrams.
- Operates toolroom equipment for repair and replacement of parts associated with machine breakdowns. Provides inventory of toolroom and order requests for necessary parts to the Manager Facilities TFR.
- Uses precision gauges, such as micrometers and dial indicators, and common hand and power tools, such as drills, wrenches, screwdrivers, etc.
- Estimates equipment-based downtime and reports to Manager, Facilities along with any parts necessary for repair.
- Installs new equipment and machinery to improve production processes, including complex jobs for advanced machines.
- Moves and resets machinery and equipment as needed for department relocation. Removes fixtures from machines.
- Runs Bridgeport lathe and milling machines.
- Troubleshoots building air, compressed gas and ventilation systems as needed.
- Complete building repair tasks as needed including carpentry and plumbing repairs.
- Works with the maintenance team to remove snow as needed.
- Uses computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to input data, document workflows and variations in machines and PM breakdowns, modifications and installations.
- Documents all work performed and parts used, including part numbers, on machinery in the CMMS, regardless of how minor the repair/fix.
- Interacts with Engineering, Operations and Safety teams. Provides support services in a courteous and timely manner.
- Remains current on new techniques and technology applicable to position.
- Communicates effectively and continuously with Manager, Facilities as well as Supervisors in production to discuss and resolve any hindrances to processing line time. Makes suggestions on how to improve throughput.
- Follows all safety rules and regulations and reports potentially unsafe conditions.
- Uses equipment and materials properly and follows Lockout Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
- Keeps work area in a clean and orderly condition.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Driving between local company sites for a temporary period (up to 24 months). Valid driver’s license and good driving record necessary during this period.
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 5+ years of experience in machinery maintenance in a manufacturing environment
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Experience with effective documentation of work detail data into a computerized system
- Understanding of the implications of equipment downtime and inefficient processing
- Proficient in reading schematics and blueprints and using them to troubleshoot
- Ability to learn all aspects of production equipment and to teach others key primary adjustments
- Ability to operate machine shop and welding equipment
- Ability to use hand and power tools in a safe and effective manner
- Ability to work at heights in a scissor or aerial lift
- Ability and willingness to perform moderate physical tasks, such as lifting, carrying, bending, continuous standing, etc.
- Manual dexterity and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs without assistance
- Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving abilities with the ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize
- Possess strong interpersonal as well as verbal and written communication skills
- Ability and willingness to respond as needed and contribute effectively to a team environment.
- Ability to work independently and function as a team member
Work Environment
This position works primarily in a production floor environment where large equipment and noise are prevalent. Safety gear is required in these areas.
This position reports into the site every day.
This position has no direct reports.
