The Senior Manager, Principal Software Engineer is an onsite client-facing role within our engineering consultancy, responsible for designing and delivering innovative, scalable, and high-quality custom software solutions. This role is ideal for an experienced technical leader who excels at understanding complex business problems, architecting software solutions, managing client engagements, and mentoring teams. People in this role are capable of managing highly complex global programs with multiple workstreams and business/technical impacts. In addition to high-quality delivery, the Senior Manager actively contributes to business development and firm growth through solution design, team leadership, and client management.

Senior Managers will ideally be staffed as the technical lead for one or more engineering engagements but can also function as high-level individual contributors when needed.

Responsibilities

Client Service Delivery:

Serves as the solution architect, translating complex business problems into scalable, maintainable, and technically feasible software architectures.

Leads the full lifecycle of software solution delivery from concept and design through implementation, leveraging modern software development practices.

Partners with product owners, analysts, and client stakeholders to structure actionable, technical roadmaps.

Leads cross-functional development teams, providing direction and mentorship to ensure high-quality delivery aligned with best practices.

Serves as a trusted advisor to senior technical and business leaders at client organizations.

Develops and manages complex technical program structures, schedules, technical dependencies, and architecture decisions.

Identifies and mitigates risks associated with software delivery and provides strategic recommendations to clients and project teams.

Delivers quality oversight and ensures technical excellence throughout the lifecycle of engagements.

Provides informal and formal feedback to engineers and consultants, supporting their growth on projects.

Builds strong partnerships with client teams, actively participating in solutioning and implementation planning.

Business Development:

Contributes to business development through pre-sales engineering, solution architecture, scoping, and proposal development.

Shapes delivery methodologies, frameworks, and service offerings to meet emerging market needs.

Partners with Growth and Delivery Excellence Leaders (DELs) to identify, architect, and lead new business opportunities.

Maintains a strong professional network with clients and partners, identifying extensions, expansions, and adjacent opportunities.

Supports technical writing, estimating level of effort, and defining implementation resource plans.

People Development:

Coaches and mentors junior engineers and consultants on software design, development practices, and career progression.

Serves as a 1:1 Manager for up to 4 associates.

Partners with DELs to support feedback and development for associates.

Delegates effectively to create leverage and build capabilities within delivery teams.

Designs, coaches, and drives the success of team members on both delivery and technical innovation.

Drives firm growth through active participation in internal communities and contributions to thought leadership (e.g., publishing, speaking).

Required Qualifications

B.A. or B.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).

12+ years of software development experience, including client-facing consulting roles.

Proven experience leading complex software development programs, including architectural design and team leadership.

Experience engaging with business leaders and managing client relationships at senior levels.

Demonstrated expertise in developing software products/solutions using:

Backend: Python

Frontend: React, Next.js, Node.js

Databases: Relational (SQL) and NoSQL

Cloud platforms: AWS, Azure

Software practices: Agile, CI/CD, DevOps, Microservices, API development

Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

Proven ability to coach, mentor, and develop team members.

Desired Qualifications

MBA preferred.

Experience in both enterprise software development and professional consulting.

Proven track record of building technical practices, teams, or reusable solution assets.

Experience working across industries or deep experience in a strategic vertical (e.g., healthcare, finance, tech).

Prior involvement in shaping firm service offerings and participating in firm-building initiatives

Job-Specific Requirements

Ability to work onsite with clients as requested.

Ability to work remotely as required.

Willingness to travel up to 80%.

Willingness to work non-standard hours as necessary.

Compensation and Benefits

The estimated salary range for this role is $118,500-$263,500 USD per year. This salary range is provided as required by local and state law as applicable. Individual salaries vary on a number of factors including but not limited to geography, skills, education, experience and unique qualifications where applicable.

Bonuses are awarded at Point B’s discretion and are based upon individual contributions and overall firm performance.
