Job Description Summary:
Aviagen seeks a dynamic and highly motivated professional to lead our Finance Department. We are a shared service and this position will lead, manage and report on daily accounting activities for Aviagen’s three US-based businesses. The Controller will manage a team of 9 individuals including 2 direct reports, in division financial reporting, GL maintenance, daily cash activity, AP, AR and fixed assets. This includes month end close activities and producing various financial reports for management in regards to revenue, production costs, department expenses, and overall business objectives. The Controller will work with staff to develop and maintain strong business and system controls including streamlining of the accounting operations and reporting as well as manage the external audit process. The position reports to the VP of Finance and works closely with other key company managers.
Job Description:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage all accounting operations including Supply Inventory Accounting, Farm Contractor pay, A/R, GL Maintenance, Fixed Assets including CIP, Revenue Recognition Accounting and A/P including Company credit card and expense reporting processes.
- Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements and report and analyze monthly variances to budget and forecasts.
- Lead and manage the accounting team to ensure accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports.
- Providing management with information vital to the decision making process.
- Coordinate the preparation of regulatory reporting including annual Statutory Package for each entity.
- Research technical accounting issues for compliance including certain IFRS requirements.
- Lead and manage month-end and year-end close processes including annual external audit.
- Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.
- Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements.
- Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
- Identify and implement processes to improve finance workflow between purchasing and AP processes, production, Feedmill and hatchery operations.
- Support insurance renewal process.
- Support the budgeting and forecasting process.
- Support tax department requests and requirements.
- Developing and monitoring business performance metrics both operational and administrative.
- Perform other accounting, financial, or administrative tasks as may be required from time to time by Management.

Qualifications:
- 7-12 years of progress accounting and finance experience with effective communication
- CPA Required, Accounting degree
- Experience in Poultry Industry a plus
- Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
- Requires excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy
- Experience with fixed asset, sales and use tax and IFTA tax reporting a plus
- Advanced understanding of GAAP / IFRS including experience with financial statements and reporting
- Experience with general ledger / subledger functions and the month-end/year-end close processes
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and accounting software user (Microsoft Great Plains experience, a plus)
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, determine priorities and adapt to changing priorities
