Job Title: Customs Assistant Manager

Position Summary

This position will function to control import/export flow for the AISIN North Carolina facility and work to provide guidance and support to the AISIN TX facility and SHIROKI facilities including import team members either onsite or at those locations.

Position Responsibilities

The incumbent is expected to perform the following functions that the company has determined are essential to this position:

  • Ensure that processes are in place and continually assessed and improved to maintain compliance with global and regional import and export compliance requirements.
  • Ensure that tariff codes and previous customs documentation are accurate and compliant.
  • Coordinate with Production Control, Engineering, and other internal departments to ensure compliance with government regulations.
  • Coordinate with U.S. Customs during validations and periodic revalidations.
  • Conduct audits of export and import transactions and customs information.
  • Maintain accurate records of compliance documentation.
  • Manage company carrier compliance to Customs programs and other international logistics functions.
  • Take the lead on responding to any communication or inquiry from customs regulatory bodies, customers, and/or suppliers on matters relating to import/export compliance requirements.
  • Act as the company representative in dealings with USCBP and its agents.
  • Administrate Duty Drawback calculations and submissions.
  • Classify new import/export items.
  • Recordkeeping for import entries (must be kept for 7 years).
  • Maintain ownership of the company Harmonized Tariff Schedule coding database.
  • Track and report revisions to Value of items imported.
  • Create/maintain Work Instruction Sheets for Import/Export procedures.
  • Organize and lead necessary training activities.
  • Perform Post Entry Reviews of ANC import documentation, expanding the scope for other facilities as integrated.
  • Systematically audit existing import/export items for classification.
  • Update and create material for the company Import/Export Manual.
  • Confirm country of origin.
  • Confirm merchandise complies with FDA, EPA/DOT, CPSC, FTC and Agriculture agency requirements.
  • Act as the contact person for brokers to clear problems with entries and customs payments.
  • Ensure we meet related party tests (who owns who?).
  • Explore tariff cost reduction possibilities.
  • Track Customs Bond renewal for Duty Drawback Bond, Continuous Bonds (CB) over multiple transactions, Instrument of International Traffic bond.
  • Track Temporary Importation Bonds (individual).
  • Other related tasks and duties as required.

Required Skills and Abilities

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Experience in Logistics, Supply Chain, or Customs Brokerage functional area, 5+ years preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent collaboration, organizational, and teamwork skills.
  • Working knowledge of US Customs programs such as ISA, C-TPAT, etc.
  • Knowledge of US Customs and Border Protection Laws and Regulations.
  • Knowledge of HTS of US.
  • Customs Broker License or training certifications.
  • Experience managing a team.

Beneficial Skills and Experience

  • Experience with automotive parts logistics.
  • Manufacturing experience (with knowledge of engineering change documentation).
  • Ability to interpret automotive parts design drawings.

Education/Training/Certifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred or work experience in a related field.
