In collaboration with the health care team, provides education to patients and families to improve health by encouraging healthy lifestyles and wellness and prevent illness.

QUALIFICATIONS

License /Certification

Required: Medical Assistant certificate (program completion from Adult School or Trade School) and/ or proof of passing the CA state test to become a Certified Nursing Assistant.

Education

Preferred: High school diploma

Experience

Preferred: Three years experience in an OB/GYN clinic setting

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Must be bilingual in Spanish.

Testing

Requires successful completion of the Language Resource Assistant (LRA) test at a Clinical level. LRA is a language assessment test that demonstrates written and oral interpretation/translation technique skills. Test will be administered if selected.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential

Provides education and information regarding medical services, reproductive physiology/anatomy, sexually transmitted diseases, reproductive health, birth control, pregnancy test results, pregnancy options, and appropriate referrals.

Obtains all required patient consents including: BTL, VBAC, AIA, all FDA approved birth control method consents.

Provides counseling sessions for male and female sterilizations and make appropriate referrals.

Takes telephone calls from patients with questions related to birth control.

Provides one-on-one counseling, education and group education classes.

Provides pregnancy testing, education and counseling and referral services.

Documents all services in the medical record, 100%.

Assists in the preparation of relevant protocols, program plans and lesson plans for education programs.

Regularly attends meetings with the other providers to ensure that quality care procedures are being followed.

Participates in meetings as assigned, 90%.

Submits for approval the ordering of education materials and supplies. Keep exam rooms and other assigned distribution sites stocked with supplies.

Coordinates and participates in the screening and selection of health education materials including audio-visual and print materials.

Responsible for all education supplies, equipment and materials. Maintains inventory and check out system. Health education materials and supplies are current and adequate supplies are available, 100%.

Conducts community presentations about health promotion topics and clinic services.

Participates in community outreach, education sessions and promotional activities.

Prepares monthly health promotion productivity reports.

Assists in the training of new health promotion staff members.

Translates in English and Spanish both written and oral form for all departments, as needed. Translates accurately, 90%.

Follows clinic confidentiality policy 100% of the time and never discusses a patient inappropriately.

Works flexible hours to accommodate the needs of the patients and clinic. Is available to work evenings and weekends. Accepts and works scheduled shifts 100% of the time.

Additional

Ensures adequate supplies of "give-away" items are stocked to supply all outreach events.

Develops and manages resource libraries needed for health education services.

Acts as a resource to local school Kaweah Healths and community organizations by coordinating and providing health promotion services. Includes but not limited to classes on Family Life and Human Sexuality.

Coordinates and staffs community outreach events; trade shows, health fairs, health screenings, Annual Women's Conference, etc.

Responds to requests for community education within 48 hours.

Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and services appropriate to the population served on the assigned unit or work area. Knowledgeable of growth and development for all patient/family cultural, linguistic, spiritual, gender, and age specific needs. Able to effectively communicate and care for patient and family as reflected in the Plan for Provision of Care.

Performs other duties as assigned.

$20.00 -$30.00
