Design the Code Behind Mission-Critical Systems

PDS Tech Commercial is seeking a Sr. Staff Embedded Software Engineer to support advanced aerospace and defense initiatives. As a key technical leader, you’ll be responsible for designing and delivering sophisticated embedded software systems used in missile defense, aviation, and next-generation weapons technologies.

In this role, you’ll lead full lifecycle software development efforts—from architecture and integration to testing and field support—bringing mission-critical systems to life with accuracy, security, and reliability.

What You’ll Do

• Develop and support embedded software products, working from technical specifications to functional applications.
• Perform deep technical analysis, problem resolution, and operational integration of real-time software systems.
• Maintain, debug, and optimize performance of embedded systems used in defense applications.
• Collaborate with SEIT teams to translate high-level system requirements into effective software design and architecture.
• Drive concepts of operation (CONOPS), external interface definitions, and system sequences.
• Design algorithms and author technical documentation including software designs, use cases, and functional design specs.
• Contribute to proposal efforts and long-term product strategy.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline with 12+ years of experience, Master’s with 10+, or PhD with 8+.
• Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Proficient in C programming and object-oriented design.
• Full software development lifecycle experience: requirements, design, implementation, testing, and deployment.
• Experience integrating firmware/software into complex, multi-threaded real-time embedded systems.
• Strong knowledge of RTOS design, secure coding, and ARM architecture.
• Proficient with Agile development tools: Git, Bitbucket, Jira.
• Must hold or be eligible to obtain a U.S. DoD Secret security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in missile defense systems: launch, targeting, or fire control.
• In-depth knowledge of hardware/software integration and testing methodologies.
• Hands-on experience with missile or system-level testing.
• Familiarity with PowerPC, FPGA development (VHDL/Verilog), and real-time system constraints.
• Strong communication and leadership skills for effective collaboration in cross-functional environments.

Pay Details: $49.85 to $63.09 per hour
