New hires, re-hires, and internal hires will typically receive a starting salary between the posted minimum and the average pay of employees in their same classification. Offers will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and qualifications and will thoughtfully consider internal pay equity for agency staff who perform similar duties and have similar qualifications. The top half of the posted salary range is generally reserved for candidates who exceed the requirements and qualifications for the role. The maximum salary range is reserved for candidates that far exceed the required and preferred qualifications for the role.

Position Overview: The Education Data SAS Programmer position reports to the PEIMS Reporting Unit director in the Research and Analysis Division. This position is responsible for developing a wide range of programs to produce high-quality reports and data files that disseminate information about students, district employees, and educational organizations using statewide data. The data displayed in these reports play a critical role in informing stakeholders about the Texas public school system, both in terms of student learning environments and opportunities and district operations.

To provide useful information for the advancement of Texas education, the Programmer works closely with a team of education data analysts to develop programs to produce reports, manage TSDS searches, perform quality assurance tasks, and identify ways to improve the quality and efficiency of the report production processes. The position works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement.

Flexible work location within the state of Texas may be considered for qualified candidates.

Essential Functions

Job duties are not limited to the essential functions mentioned below. You may perform other functions as assigned.

1. SAS Programming: Use SAS programming to develop reports and data files, ensure all data requests comply with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

2. Web Report Development: Leads or supports improvements in web products or ad hoc production processes.

3. Quality Assurance: Perform quality assurance tasks on colleagues’ reports and data files.

4. Project Management: Manage TSDS searches, including DFPS and PIR requests for current student location information.

5. Documentation: Documents project processes, technical comments, and possible issues.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university
  • Experience: At least three (3) years of experience with SAS or SQL programming

  • Prior experience developing and maintaining web reports
  • Ability to break down complex information into comprehensive parts, ask questions, synthesize and analyze
