The South Dakota Board of Regents (SDBOR), located in South Dakota’s capitol city of Pierre, SD, is seeking nominations and applications for a dynamic leader in the areas of Academic Curriculum and Program Policy. The primary purpose of this position is to be a key partner and academic leader recommending, developing, and implementing strategies to promote System goals and priorities with a focus on academic excellence, collaborations, and quality for academic programs. This position will oversee and manage all curriculum planning and assessment, new program requests, and program review. This position facilitates academic assessment, accreditation, and curricular innovation partnering with the campuses.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to assist with the strategic academic leadership for the state’s six public universities. The public university system contributes in vital and substantial ways to South Dakota’s economic growth and well-being by producing graduates who can succeed in a competitive workforce, contribute to South Dakota’s economic development, and become South Dakota’s emerging new leaders of government, business, and education.

Reporting to the Vice President of Academic Policy and Planning, this position assists with the organization’s vision and strategic leadership in developing strategies for academic quality. Working closely with the Vice President, this position oversees curriculum and program management and works with multiple constituencies both internal and external to the university system. This position supports the development of partnerships and positive working relationships with external stakeholders including public and private organizations, universities, legislature, and K-12 education leaders.

The successful candidate will also respond to inquiries from system universities interpreting academic policies and guidelines. The ability to work with multiple constituencies, to multitask, be organized, to take on initiative and work without direct supervision is required.

The work of this position is performed within policies included in state and federal law and administrative regulations with wide latitude for the exercise of leadership, collaboration, independent judgment, and decision making.

Advanced graduate degree required. The successful candidate will have five years’ experience/knowledge of higher education preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be acceptable to the hiring manager. Knowledge of emerging expectations and innovations in higher education, particularly related to collaborative programming, pedagogical strategies to improve teaching and learning.

Department Description and Cultural Expectations

The position reports to the system’s Vice President of Academic Policy and Planning and works closely with university leadership, the state legislature, the K-12 community, and the Board of Regents.

The South Dakota Board of Regents is the governing body for the state’s public universities and special schools: Black Hills State University, Dakota State University, Northern State University, South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, South Dakota State University, University of South Dakota, South Dakota School for the Blind and Visually Impaired, and the South Dakota School for the Deaf.
