Job Title: Embedded Software Developer

Job Description

Design, implement, integrate, and maintain real-time photonic card software for Optical Ethernet Network products. This role involves leveraging advanced coherent optics, automated OTN, packet and SONET/SDH switching, control plane, and unified network management to help network operators scale, manage, and differentiate their operations.

Responsibilities

• Interact with module firmware and card software vendors to introduce new features and resolve bugs.
• Test, validate, and integrate module firmware and card software loads received from vendors.
• Collaborate with the lab support team to ensure that the equipment in labs is in good operating condition.

Essential Skills

• Bachelor’s or higher degree in computer or electrical engineering, computer science.
• Proficiency with C and Python, with substantial experience in these languages.
• Experience in developing software for embedded systems, especially for photonics cards.
• Familiarity with real-time operating systems such as VxWorks, QNX, or Linux.
• Experience with unit testing tools.
• Proficiency in debugging and troubleshooting software using tools like gdb.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working in a lab environment, ensuring lab setup is functional.
• Familiarity with telecom products.
• Experience with device drivers is beneficial.
• Knowledge of scripting languages such as Perl or Bash.
• Understanding of CPU hardware architectures and hardware functional specifications.
• Experience with software development tools like Git, BitBucket, JIRA.
• Familiarity with unit test frameworks such as Google Test or PyTest.
• Understanding of datacom and telecom concepts such as DWDM, SONET/SDH, OTN, Ethernet.

Work Environment

This position is a 12-month open-ended contract, with renewal every fiscal year on November 1st, offering high job security. While there is a strong preference for new hires to be onsite most of the time, especially early in their careers, there is potential for hybrid work based on individual performance and remote productivity. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.
