He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Auckland Council’s Risk & Assurance department has an opportunity for a permanent full time Risk Advisor. This hybrid role is based at the Council Tower at 135 Albert Street and reports to the Head of Risk & Audit.

This position plays a pivotal role within the Line 2 risk team at Auckland Council, contributing significantly to the implementation of comprehensive risk management strategies and the cultivation of a robust risk management culture across the organisation. The role will also be responsible for ensuring the growth, maintenance, and active engagement of the Council’s extensive network of Risk Champions.

You could expect to work on:

  • Facilitating the development of organisational risk registers, including the identification, assessment and reporting of risks.
  • Providing consistent support and guidance on risk management to key stakeholders at the council, including the network of risk champion.
  • Coordinate and administer the procurement, implementation, roll-out and embedding of an eventual ERM system for the council group.

The renumeration range for this role is between $85k - $95k.

He kōrero mōu: About you

You likely have experience working in large, complex, and potentially political organisations. We are seeking someone with political acumen to collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.

You take a consultative approach, working closely with management and staff to embed effective risk management practices. Strong facilitation, influencing, and interpersonal skills enable you to engage stakeholders and build consensus.

You have a good understanding of risk management methods, processes, and procedures, with experience evaluating and resolving issues. You can interpret and communicate complex data clearly. Your excellent report writing and communication skills allow you to effectively consult and engage with key stakeholders, while remaining open to feedback and diverse perspectives.

We will be looking for specific experience with the key role requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Risk Management, or a related field
  • Previous internship or entry-level experience in risk management, compliance or auditing preferred
  • Demonstrable experience with AS/NZ ISO 31000 and knowledge of MS Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Demonstrated ability to foster a strong risk-aware culture by promoting understanding and awareness of risk management principles.
