Medical Research Technician Flow Cytometry Core

TNPRC - Immunology

Location: Covington, LA

Summary

The Medical Research Technician performs acquisition of flow cytometry samples in the Flow Core Laboratory at TNPRC. Operates, maintains and troubleshoots Becton-Dickinson Flow Cytometers, specifically the LSRFortessa, the FACSymphony, and the FACSAria II. Stains whole blood samples for absolute count determinations. Maintains records of flow cytometry experiments performed, maintains archive of all raw data files, and distributes results to primary investigators via the LAN along with relevant technical notes and/or acquisition plots.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of BSL-2 and preferably BSL-3 compliance and standard operating procedures.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Proficient computer skills and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Word and Excel software applications.
  • Proficient use of common laboratory equipment.
  • Ability to order reagents, keep laboratory records, prepare laboratory stocks.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet established deadlines.
  • Previous experience and/or training with Becton Dickinson cytometers/sorters

Required Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor of Science Degree
  • OR
  • High School Diploma (or Equivalent) with 6 years of research experience in molecular biology, immunology and/or other microbiology-related disciplines

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a biological sciences field with 1 year of research experience in molecular biology, immunology and/or other microbiology-related disciplines
  • Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist certification• Experience using automated laboratory instrumentation
  • Flow Cytometry Experience

Compensation Information

This position is classified as "non-exempt, hourly" and is assigned to pay grade 23.
