The Role
We are currently recruiting for a Senior Investment Manager to join Phoenix Asset Management’s Strategy & Solutions team, directly reporting to Asset Management Senior Leadership (Co-Head of Strategy & Solutions).
This individual will lead on strategy and execution of key business objectives, with responsibility for strategic expansion of Phoenix Asset Management’s investment and portfolio management capabilities for its shareholder balance sheet and annuity proposition. This will include responsibility for proposing Phoenix Asset Management’s new asset strategy and delivering these capabilities, as well as collaborating with other Front Office Markets teams on sourcing and executing bespoke asset management transactions.
Context - Strategy & Solutions Team:
- The Strategy & Solutions Team is part of Phoenix Retirement Solutions & Asset Management Division. The team is part of Phoenix Asset Management’s Capital Markets front office team, responsible for investment of Phoenix’s annuity and shareholder balance sheet assets.
- The Strategy & Solutions Team is responsible for design and implementation of Phoenix Asset Management’s investment strategy for its annuity and shareholder balance sheet assets. The team also leads and/or supports with strategic corporate transactions concerning Asset Management.
- The team’s responsibilities include determining the Group’s investment strategy and pricing portfolios for annuity business, supporting with optimal implementation of investment strategy and determining, and delivering, the Group’s new asset strategy in line with Phoenix Asset Management’s investment and risk management strategy.
What you'll be doing:
- Be responsible for development of Phoenix Asset Management’s new asset strategy, with a particular focus on the Group’s annuity proposition and shareholder balance sheet assets. Develop and deliver the new asset strategy in close collaboration with other Front Office teams, specifically Private Markets, Public Markets and Macro Markets.
- Partner with senior leaders across the business to develop new asset strategy, asset management solutions and propositions, working closely with:
- External asset management, banking partners and originators to identify market opportunities and inform strategic priorities for Phoenix Asset Management.
- Retirement Solutions & Asset Management colleagues, including Market and Asset-Liability Management (ALM) teams, to deliver annuity investment solutions and new investment capability for the Group.
- Phoenix Risk and Actuarial functions to develop risk appetite to support Asset Management and Group strategic objectives.
- Presentation of new asset strategy and/or propositions to Executives and the Board
- Senior leader in the Strategy & Solutions team, responsible for leading and developing colleagues in the wider Asset Management team.
- Providing Asset Management Subject Matter Expertise to support development of capital market solutions and portfolio optimisation for insurance balance sheets (e.g. considering Matching Adjustment, Solvency II and UK Life Insurance regulatory environment).

What we’re looking for
Experience & Knowledge (Minimum Criteria)
- Extensive and demonstrated experience of working in investment teams, developing investment strategies or opportunities for UK insurance investors
- Strong financial and capital market knowledge; particularly understanding of the public and private debt markets and landscape
- Strong capability in fixed income valuation approaches and financial models
- Knowledge of asset optimisation under Solvency UK balance sheet and matching adjustment frameworks
- Strong people leadership and credentials for high-performing teams
- Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with senior Executives, Board members and external stakeholders.
Skills & Personal Attributes
- Strong analytical skills, problem-solving ability and research capabilities.
- Ability to manage broad range of activities while ensuring integrity, accuracy, and timeliness.
- Strong communication skills – ability to communicate complex issues in a clear and concise fashion both verbally and in written communications.

Qualifications
- Degree in Finance/Statistical discipline or;
- CFA or Qualified Actuary beneficial, but not essential.
