Overview

The School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, located on the George H. Cook Campus, is one of the largest schools of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. We pursue excellence in research, teaching, and outreach in areas of study that address the biological spectrum from molecules to ecosystems. Our emphasis is on both the fundamental sciences and the social and human dimensions. We offer 21 undergraduate majors, including plant and animal sciences, microbiology, biotechnology, agriculture and food systems, landscape architecture, food and nutritional sciences, ecology and evolution, marine science and oceanography, environmental sciences and meteorology, human ecology, entomology, and environmental economics.

In addition to instruction in the classroom, field, and laboratory, our students have opportunities for experiential learning on and off campus, including a growing emphasis on international experiences through short- and long-term study abroad. Students also have access to a robust program of applied research and outreach hosted by the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station laboratories, farms, business incubators, and marine stations throughout the state.

Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a SNAP-Ed. Nutrition – Clerical Assistant Casual for the School of Environmental and Biological Services.

Among the key duties of the position are the following:

  • Supports and teaches community-based direct education lessons to adults and youth, using pre-approved curricula, under the direction of the supervisor and in accordance with federal, state and University guidelines that govern the SNAP-Ed program.
  • Creates social media and web site content for county Facebook pages and web sites on identified topics that promote nutrition, health, food security, and wellness to SNAP-eligible audiences.
  • Updates and maintains outreach databases, organize administrative files, scan and process.
  • paperwork, and compile materials, food, and supplies for classes.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

FLSA Nonexempt

Salary Details A range of minimum wage to $24.00/hour

Minimum Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Certifications/Licenses

  • Valid driver’s license and/or reliable transportation to various demonstration sites.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong interest in working with adults and youth to improve nutrition, food security, health, and well being.
  • Must be comfortable teaching and interacting directly with adults and youth using hands-on lessons that use food, taste-testing, and cooking as part of the curricula.
  • Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • College student majoring in nutrition (preferred), health education, public health, health professions, food policy, family and consumer sciences, or related discipline.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Equipment Utilized

  • Cooking equipment, computers.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends.
  • May be based in Burlington, Camden, Gloucester, or Mercer County.
