Position Summary:
The Senior Scientific Programs Director provides strategic and operational leadership for the development, implementation, and evaluation of scientific programs and initiatives within the Stravitz-Sanyal Institute for Liver Disease and Metabolic Health. This role is critical in fostering a vibrant research environment, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration, and enhancing the impact of VCU's scientific endeavors. The Director will work closely with faculty, staff, and external partners to advance the institution's research mission and strategic goals.

Minimum Hiring Standards:
Master’s degree in a scientific discipline or related field required; PhD preferred.
Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience in the field of oversight.
Five or more years of supervisory and/or leadership experience.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in scientific program development and management, preferably in an academic or research setting.
Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, program evaluation, and grant writing.
Strong knowledge of research funding mechanisms and regulations.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of individuals.
Demonstrated experience with budgeting, and fiscal management.
Proven ability to lead projects, and manage teams.
Possessing a comprehensive knowledge of the service or functional area.
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in relevant research area, e.g., biomedical research, public health, engineering.
Experience working in a large, complex organization.
Experience with data analysis and interpretation.
Direct experience with organizing multi-center NIH or sponsored studies (e.g., U01).
Experience with Training Program management (e.g. T32).
Post-doctoral experience in a biological field
