Overview
Reporting directly to the Director of Nursing, the Assistant Director of Nursing provides operational and analytical support for the Nursing Administrative Team and other members of the Nursing Home management team. As such, participates in leadership direction for the Department, as well as coordination with other departments in Rutland Nursing Home and the Medical Center.
Responsibilities
- Serves as the Infection Control Surveillance and Preventionist Nurse. In this role, determines with Nursing Management and other members of the Interdisciplinary Team, Infection control Surveillance priorities and develops in-service, enhanced practice and competencies.
- Makes daily rounds to ensure Infection Control compliance, antibiotic stewardship and reinforcement of the overall Environment of Care.
- Acts as a direct liaison with the Medical Center Director of Infection Control and Director of Pharmacy.
- Provides supervision of Evening, Night and Weekend Supervisors and assists the Associate Director of Nursing in ensuring appropriate coverage and operational oversight.
- Participates in leadership related to survey preparedness.
- Participates in In-service Education, staff orientations as determined by the Director of Nursing.
- Participates in the QAPI Program and leads and coordinates QAA initiatives.
- Responsible for staff supervision as assigned and Human Resources liaison inclusive of enhancement of employee performance improvement, counseling and discipline as required, and staff recruitment.
- Acts as a liaison with other Departments and disciplines as required by senior nursing administration.
- Maintains Departmental reports and statistical data as required.
- Oversees Wound Care Management Program. This includes program development and on going enhancement, oversight of staff development and certification of competencies.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Nursing.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) required.
- Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN) preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum 2.5 years experience in Nursing Home staff nursing.
- Minimum 2.5 years of experience as a Nurse Manager or Assistant Director of Nursing in a Nursing Home required.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Ability to read, write and interpret documents.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients and/or co-workers.
- Must be trained in and knowledgeable of all Kingsbrook/Rutland policies and procedures pertaining to hazardous waste and hazardous materials and maintain qualifications applicable to assigned work.
- Knowledge of all codes and demonstrate understanding.
License/Certifications:
- Licensed Registered Nurse required.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in surroundings with degree of dust, noise, etc. without undue discomfort.
- Ability to hear, talk, walk, stand, bend and stretch.
- Ability to sit for long periods of time at desk to perform job functions.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time at required patient bedside and/or procedural areas.
