Description
A Brief Overview
The Cath Lab Tech is responsible to the Department Assistant Nurse Manager/Director and its clients for performing a variety of duties in cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology to assist the cardiologist and electrophysiologist and the quality of radiological work in the EP or cardiac catheterization laboratory.
What You Will Do
- Demonstrate the ability to assess patients' status and identify each patient’s requirements relative to their age specific needs.
- Assist in the acquisition of patient history and entering into Hemodynamic system and/or EMR.
- Prepping patient and attaching leads, Defibrillator Pads, BP cuff and setting up the sterile field.
- Assisting the Physician at the table maintaining sterile procedure. Responsible for availability of supplies and equipment keeping in mind fiscal responsibility.
- Responsible for all duties related to Radiation Safety and Protection.
- Strong knowledge of Cath lab/EP equipment and supplies and act as the resource person for other staff.
- Keeping up with current billing changes and billing reconciliation and act as a resource for other staff.
- Administrative skills to contribute to the successful operation of the department.
- Correctly and efficiently participates in supply and equipment maintenance and performs QA checks.
- Ensure staff is educated on Radiation Safety and protection, lead inventory is checked and logged annually and all Physicians and staff are documented as competent on table controls for ODH.
- At least 3 of the following Skill sets: (Documentation in annual evaluation required)
- PACS workflow
- CT fusions
- CPT code knowledge
- Q-Site Inventory
- Lead Maintenance and badge tracking
- Fluoroscopy film processing post procedure
- Deploying Closure devices
- CD creation of filming for outside transfer of information
Additional Responsibilities
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Complies with all policies and standards.

- Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
Qualifications
Education
- Graduate of an Accredited Radiologic Technology Program or an accredited Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist Program (Required) or
- Bachelor's Degree Related to healthcare (Preferred)
Work Experience
- 5+ years of current Special Procedures, Interventional Radiology or Cardiac Catheterization Lab or EP experience. (Required) and
- Advanced EKG recognition course experience. (Required)
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Demonstrating proficiency in arrhythmia recognition. (Required proficiency)
- Strong communication, problem-solving and interpersonal skills. (Required proficiency)
- Clinical familiarity with patient assessment skills in conjunction with the procedures being performed. (Required proficiency)
- Knowledge of conscious sedation policy and documentation. (Required proficiency)
- Participation in PI and Quality initiatives. (Required proficiency)
- Proctor and mentor new employees and students within your scope of practice. (Required proficiency)
- Advanced computer skills and experience with Hemodynamic Monitoring. (Required proficiency)
- Knowledge of peripheral/vascular catheters, guide wires, & all supplies specific to this area. (Required proficiency)
- Vast knowledge and troubleshooting of a variety of equipment, including power injectors & various computers. (Required proficiency)
- Strong in the Scrub position for Interventional And/or Cardiac, Peripheral and CRT (EP) procedures. (Required proficiency)
- And/or Interventional Neurology procedures (Required proficiency)
- Collaborate with other disciplines and Cath lab staff to ensure patient satisfaction initiatives are met (Required proficiency)
- Additional cardiovascular 6 CEU’s to be turned into managers. (Required proficiency)
- These can be RN CEU’s but must be directly related to the field you are employed in. (Required proficiency)
Licenses and Certifications
- Registered Technologist Radiography (ARRT-R) licensed in the state of Ohio (Required) and
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) (Required Upon Hire) and
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) (Required Upon Hire) and
- Licensed in the State of Ohio (Required) and
- Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (Required) or
- VI through ARRT (Required) or
- Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) (Required) or
- CI through ARRT (Required) or
