ASRC Federal Data Solutions seeks a High-Performance Computing (HPC) Application Support Administrator to join a team supporting a Fortune 500 consumer product goods (CPG) customer’s high-performance computing environment located in West Chester Ohio. This is an entry level application engineer position with opportunity for advancement in the field of scientific application support for HPC systems
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Install, configure, and maintain commercial CAE applications and licenses for HPC and desktop environments.
- Troubleshoot and resolve common application issues, documenting events for continuous operation.
- Upgrade application and license software per business needs and change management protocols.
- Test and optimize software/services to enhance performance.
- Use corporate tools to track change and problem activities.
- Monitor technical support desk queue, addressing HPC environment, account, and basic software/licensing issues.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
- Manage/Install Gitlab server for software script revision control
- Documentation for application/license installation/configuration
- Participate in short and long-term structured projects including developing cluster tools or solutions, automating deployments, HPC job optimization, pre/post-processing workflows, alerts, usage, and performance metrics for the Fortune 500 CPG company contract, as well as other customers
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES
Required Qualifications
- Requires BS or 2 – 4 years of prior relevant in Linux/UNIX Systems Administration.
- Scripting proficiency in Bash or Python
- Experience working with building, installing, and maintaining software codes from source code.
- Working knowledge of the Linux (RHEL 8.x/9.x) environment, command-line tools, shell scripting, and utilities.
- Motivated, responsible, focused, analytical, self-starter, team player, able to communicate clearly and effectively with others on-site and at other locations
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with CAE codes such as ABAQUS, ANSYS, LS-DYNA, Fluent, OpenFOAM, LAMMPS, GROMACS
- Basic understanding of HPC workload management
- Preferred experience with revision control software (e.g., CVS, SVN, Git)
- Familiarity preferred with Unix modules (Lmod/Lua)
- Familiarity preferred with system monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, Cacti, Big Brother)
- Good organization skills to balance and prioritize work, and multitask
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot systems problems
- Good communication skills to communicate with support personnel, customers, and managers
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Work Environment and Physical Demands
- This position may require occasional night and weekend support
- This position may require occasional travel
