JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Associate’s degree from an accredited university, college, or technical school, transportation-related area preferred. Prior work experience and training in the transportation field may also be considered.
Certification or Licensure: Must be able to obtain a Commercial Drivers’ License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements within 90 days.
Skills: Thorough knowledge of best practices in transportation scheduling, personnel management, routing procedures, based on national, state, and local standards governing educational institutions. Ability to collect, analyze, and use data to plan for improvements. Capable of supporting the district’s and department's vision, promote open communication, and implement collaborative problem-solving best practices. Must be able to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously. Ability to formulate and establish written policies, procedures, regulations, and performance objectives in an educational institution. Proficient in writing and technology skills necessary for producing comprehensive reports and making presentations. Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Familiarity with team-building techniques and dispute-resolution concepts. Ability to supervise and evaluate the work of others. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to make persuasive presentations. Strong organizational and leadership skills. Proficient in the use of technical computer applications. Possess a strategic focus with the ability to be decisive.
Work Experience: Minimum of two years of supervisory experience. Experience in a public-school transportation system is preferred.
PRIMARY DUTY:
The Shift Supervisor is responsible for enhancing student transportation productivity by effectively communicating and collaborating effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and other stakeholders. Responsibilities include assisting the Assistant Director with complaints and school bus accidents, supervising, and evaluating the bus transportation program, overseeing five Lead Drivers, promoting school bus safety, and ensuring special education transportation needs are met. The role also involves monitoring driver evaluations, absenteeism, routing, and inspections, assisting with drug/alcohol testing and bus cleanliness, coordinating with the Fleet Maintenance Shop, and maintaining communication with key personnel to meet transportation and safety needs. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Support and uphold the mission, values, and strategic goals of Richmond County School System.
2. Effectively interacts, communicates, and collaborates with students, parents, colleagues, and other stakeholders.
3. Ability to quickly and adapt promptly to dynamic situations.
4. Must excel in defining, measuring, and increasing productivity in transporting students.
5. Assists the Assistant Director in the investigation of complaints rendered by parents, employees, and others. Assist the Safety Department in covering school bus accidents as needed.
6. Supervises and evaluates the bus transportation program and makes recommendations to the Assistant Director of Transportation for changes to comply with provisions of Georgia Department of Education policies.
7. Provide administrative oversight of the five Lead Drivers.
8. Assist the Department with promoting school bus safety to drivers, students, parents, and the public.
9. Works with special education drivers and the Student Services Department to ensure Transportation needs are met.
10. Assist and monitor School Bus Drivers and their evaluations.
11. Monitor the work of the LEAD drivers.
12. Assist with school bus driver issues and complaints.
13. Monitor daily absenteeism, routing, and bus driver inspections.
14. Assist with random drug and alcohol testing.
15. Assist with the weekly bus inspections for cleanliness.
16. Works with the Fleet Maintenance Shop concerning bus issues.
17. Maintains open channels of communication with the Assistant Director of Transportation, the Routing and Scheduling Data Assistant Manager, and the Special Education Routing Assistant to ensure the transportation and safety needs of special needs students are satisfied.
18. The employee shall carry out such other and further duties, whether specifically listed above or not, as are assigned, or required by such employee’s supervisor, other appropriate school personnel, law, board policy, administrative regulation, department handbook, as are necessary to the efficient operation of the school system and its mission.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Occasional evening and night work may be required. . Extended hours beyond the regular school day may be frequently required.
