Researcher – Security and Safety in Spatial Computing

Nokia

Hungary

We’re looking for a curious and hands-on researcher to help shape the future of secure, intelligent buildings and workplaces. In this role, you’ll design and test new ways to keep smart office environments safe — places where devices, people, and autonomous systems (like mobile robots) interact every day.

You’ll combine expertise from multiple fields: cybersecurity, IoT, spatial computing (like indoor mapping or AR), and AI/ML. Whether your background is in engineering, computer science, robotics, or something nontraditional, we welcome applicants who are excited to work at the intersection of the digital and physical world.

This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to build real systems, run meaningful experiments, and contribute to research that has a tangible impact

HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE AND WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

  • Build a flexible/modular testbeds that simulate/emulate smart office environments.
  • Use spatial technologies like indoor positioning, 3D mapping, and digital twins to understand how physical space affects system safety.
  • Model and simulate cyber-physical attacks, including those that exploit movement, location, or device placement.
  • Design or apply machine learning to detect unusual behaviors, improve system resilience, and simulate smart attack strategies.
  • Develop visual dashboards or AR overlays to make system activity and safety states clear in real time.
  • Share your findings through publications, tools, and collaboration with other researchers and practitioners.

KEY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

We’d Love to Hear From You If You Have Experience In Any of These Areas:

  • Working with cyber-physical systems, smart buildings, IoT devices, or embedded hardware.
  • Understanding or applying cybersecurity principles, especially in complex or hybrid environments.
  • Developing with microcontrollers (like Raspberry Pi, ESP32, Arduino), sensors, or smart relays.
  • Programming (especially in Python), scripting, or working with data platforms like Grafana, InfluxDB, or ELK.
  • Robotics tools like ROS2, SLAM, or behavior modeling for mobile agents.
  • Indoor spatial systems: BLE/UWB positioning, digital twins, or AR/VR applications.
  • Applying machine learning to time-series data, anomaly detection, or simulation environments.

If you have experience outside of these areas but feel this role aligns with your strengths and interests, we still encourage you to apply.
