[What the role is]
SENIOR PRINCIPAL DEVELOPER, FULL STACK
[What you will be working on]
Join a team of changemakers on a mission to redesign the motoring experience – creating a future where transactions happen effortlessly, touchpoints are thoughtfully designed, and where every interaction in a delight. You will be part of a team to reinvent the One Motoring platform, building new capabilities to enable real-time billing, personalised dashboards, and intuitive user flows.
As our Senior Principal Developer, Full Stack, you’ll wear many hats, from engineering robust backend systems, crafting elegant frontends, configuring the deployment environment, and guiding the team’s engineering practices. You’ll play a pivotal hands-on role and mentor a small, talented team of developers. This is a fast-paced, purposeful, and deeply collaborative role.
What You’ll Do
- Own the Full Stack: Oversee the efforts to design, build, and maintain both frontend and backend, writing well-structured, easily maintainable, and testable code across the stack, contributing to robust and production-ready systems.
- Set Up & Configure the Environment: Establish development environments, CI/CD pipelines, manage codebase versioning, and set up the staging cloud infrastructure.
- Champion Agile Practices: Shape and drive lean development cycles, sprint rituals, backlog refinement, and product increments together with the Product team.
- Lead Quality & Testing: Implement unit tests, integration tests, and code reviews to maintain engineering excellence, striking a balance between test coverage and speed.
- Co-Creating Requirements: Collaborate with product managers, architects, and vendors to refine designs, iterate quickly, and respond to evolving user needs.
- Mentor & Guide Developers: Informally lead a team of developers, serving as the senior member of the tech pillar to provide technical guidance, feedback, and code direction.
- Collaborate Across Functions: Work closely with the leadership, product managers, designers, and architects to deliver impactful user experiences.
[What we are looking for]
- At least 10 years of full stack development experience, with a strong track record of building and shipping web-based applications.
- Highly familiar with frontend and backend languages, including JavaScript, Python, HTML and associated UI libraries (e.g. Angular Material, Prime)
- Proficiency in frontend frameworks (e.g. Angular, Node.js), backend frameworks (e.g. Fast API, Django), and building an event-driven, web-services based architecture. You must be highly familiar with enterprise data flows (e.g., ESB, API GW, MQ, AWS Kafka).
- Experience configuring and deploying to cloud platforms, including setting up instances, storage, and connectivity. Cloud certification (e.g. AWS Certified Professional) and experience working on Government Commercial Cloud is an advantage.
- Strong command of Git workflows, as well as automated testing (e.g. Selenium, Playwright, or equivalent), is essential to succeed in the role.
- Know-how to integrate AI tools (e.g. Copilot, Cursor) to accelerate development while ensuring compliance with organisational governance and controls.
- Able to deftly balance technical execution with big-picture thinking, navigating ambiguity and adjusting plans in real-time to meet go-to-market timelines.
- Comfortable working across an interdisciplinary practice, balancing technical, operational, and business considerations to build purposeful products.
- You are somebody that teammates look to for support and advice. You can guide junior developers to channel their efforts towards achieving shared outcomes together.
- Comfortable in a startup-like setting, where roles flex and speed matters, and bring a proactive attitude and strong ownership mentality to the table.
