Position Summary

The Import Export Transportation Specialist is a hybrid position that will work in both the import and export departments based on the workload.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

Import

  • Work with Buyers and Vendors to arrange shipment details for import purchases
  • Process import documents to submit ISF requests
  • Work with Customs Broker and CBP to resolve any clearance or inspection issues
  • Coordinate with drayage carriers to deliver containers to company owned or 3PL warehouses
  • Resolve receiving issues
  • Update information in ERP system
  • Other duties as assigned

Export

  • Review new export orders in ERP system
  • Request bookings with ocean carriers and freight forwarders based on customer ETA requirements and export routing guide
  • Arrange for container loading and delivering to ramp or port with drayage carrier in TMS
  • Track vessel and ETD/ETA and document cut dates for changes
  • Maintain shipment details in Excel spreadsheet
  • Resolve issues with carriers, mills, customer service and export documentation team
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High Diploma and 5-10 years of import/export experience
  • High attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple issues
  • Good communication skills
  • Good Excel skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and problem-solving skills

Physical Requirements

Work Environment

  • The primary work environment is an office setting with controlled temperatures and minimal exposure to hazardous conditions. Some tasks may be performed remotely, requiring a suitable home office setup

General Physical Activity

  • The role primarily involves sitting for extended periods while working on a computer or handling paperwork. Regular breaks are encouraged to maintain comfort and health. Occasionally required to move about the office to interact with different departments or retrieve documents.

Manual Dexterity:

  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing on a keyboard, writing, and handling documents.
  • Ability to handle and organize physical documents, including filing and retrieving paperwork from storage.

Visual and Auditory Demands

  • Good close-up vision is necessary for reading and reviewing documents, working on a computer, and proofreading paperwork.
  • Adequate hearing is required for effective communication with colleagues, clients, and external partners, whether in person, over the phone, or via virtual meetings.

Occasional Physical Activity

  • Occasionally required to lift and carry items such as file boxes, documents, or office supplies, typically weighing up to 10-20 pounds.
  • Some roles may require occasional travel to warehouses, ports, or meetings with regulatory bodies, necessitating the ability to drive or use other modes of transportation.
