Program Coordinator, Research Compliance

The Research Compliance Program Coordinator is part of the Research Integrity & Compliance team and is a key individual contributor who provides operational support for all aspects of the research integrity and compliance program. The Program Coordinator will develop tools and track activity to support researchers in adapting to new regulations and implementing best practices for research integrity. Reporting directly to the Assistant Provost for Research Integrity and Compliance, the Research Compliance Program Coordinator frequently works with Export Compliance, Human Research Protections Program, and faculty across the university.

Research Integrity and Compliance, within the Office of the Vice Provost for Research and Innovation (OVPRI), coordinates with a network of offices and schools to help faculty, students, and staff to meet regulatory, legal, and ethical obligations that accompany research. The office is guided by the Research Integrity and Compliance Committee, which helps ensure that compliance programs serve to advance research.

The goal of the OVPRI is to promote Vanderbilt’s distinctive research culture, which aspires to improve the human condition through path-breaking discovery and innovation. The office develops strategies and provides services to enhance extramural support for research and its application to significant challenges, advance a cohesive and vibrant trans-institutional research agenda, and build strategic partnerships around shared priorities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with all aspects of the research compliance program, including export compliance, human subjects research, responsible conduct of research, research security, and others.
  • Build expertise in export control regulations to support the export compliance program.
  • Research and develop training materials, webpages, and guides to promote best practices for ethical conduct of research.
  • Coordinate events, webinars, faculty-facing meetings, and other outreach initiatives aimed at informing researchers of new regulations or listening to researcher needs.
  • Track activity to ensure that new processes are working as intended and records are properly maintained.

Qualifications

  • An Associate’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education is necessary.
  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education is preferred.
  • At least one year of research or research administration experience is necessary.
  • At least three years of experience in a professional office setting is preferred.
  • Proven experience in prioritizing and multi-tasking is necessary.
  • Proven commitment to accuracy and thoroughness is necessary.
  • General working knowledge of the Microsoft Office software suite is necessary.
  • Exceptional writing and verbal communication skills are required, as is superior ability to address sensitive topics with empathy and a commitment to inclusivity.
  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism, diplomacy, discretion, and tact in all work efforts.
  • Reflect experience in collaborative project management, independently setting and reaching goals and gathering and organizing information.
  • Project a high degree of intelligence, energy, and imagination, and have an outstanding work ethic and personal enthusiasm for the mission of Vanderbilt University, as well as a genuine commitment to the advancement of science and education.
