CTE Teacher - Jobs for America's Graduates (JAG) Specialist
Position Summary:
The JAG Teacher focuses on and emphasizes students obtaining employment and career opportunities upon graduation and assists in navigating post-secondary education opportunities. The teacher serves as an advocate and mentor to high school students as they explore and navigate the transition into post-secondary opportunities.
Program Summary:
Jobs for America’s Graduates is a multi-year model leadership program designed to help students successfully graduate and transition into the workforce and/or postsecondary education. JAG delivers a competency-driven curriculum that prepares students for a successful future through leadership, employer engagement, skills development, project-based learning, trauma-informed instructional strategies, and the National Career Association.
- The JAG program is a grant through the Oklahoma Department of Career Tech Education, funded by the Oklahoma Department of Human Services. The program is intended to be a multi-year with renewal each year. As such, continuation of this position is based upon the availability of grant funding and renewal of the program.
Essential Duties:
- Great Teaching & Learning (Instructional Infrastructure):
- Maintain the minimum classroom enrollment per the Memorandum of Understanding with the sponsoring agency. After the program is well established, the requirement will be approximately no less than 40 students and no more than 60 per program, comprised of only registered JAGOK students.
- Identify and recruit students with a minimum of five (5) barriers who will benefit from the program model.
- Provide individual, group, and career guidance for all students served.
- Complete ALL necessary forms for enrollment and participation in JAGforce. (JAGforce training provided.)
- Provide instruction for all students utilizing the JAG program model.
- Implement JAG model curriculum and ensures students achieve specific competencies through classroom instruction including lecture, hands-on activities, team teaching, project-based learning.
- Utilize leadership, teamwork, soft-skills development, community service, competitive events, and PBL to deliver the JAG model effectively.
- Tailor instruction and intervention strategies to the individual needs of each student.
- Conduct parent-teacher conferences held in conjunction with school-sponsored PT conferences.
- Administer the Jobs for America’s National Pre- and Post-Test to all JAGOK participants to determine progress.
- Provide follow-up services in finding and maintaining quality employment and/or post-secondary educational opportunities upon graduation.
- Develop a plan for success with non-graduates to ensure effective transition to GED, employment, or additional educational services.
- Submit all required JAGforce programmatic documentation (i.e., student profiles, model services, Pre-ETS, Medicaid) by scheduled due dates.
- Commit to documenting daily model services on the JAGforce National Data Management System for every JAGOK participant, including correct attendance, allocation of time, competencies taught and classroom instruction.
- Commit to providing twelve (12) months of communication and follow-up contact with every program graduate. Develop and provide work-based learning experiences for students during the 12-month follow-up phase of the program.
- In year two of the program, establishes and coordinates a functional JAGOK Student Career Association.
- Provide students with opportunities for field trips and guest speakers, when appropriate
- Participate in local, regional, state, and national student competitive and leadership events, as available.
- Work with students and other staff/faculty to provide remediation and/or tutoring required for students to improve their basic education skills and graduate with their class. Provision of any necessary services required to help students overcome barriers to staying in school, graduating, becoming employed and/or pursuing a postsecondary education.
- Provide career counseling. Provide personal counseling referrals to school or community-based services as needed to overcome the barriers to high-stakes tests, graduation, employment, and career entry and advancement.
- Develop work-based learning and/or job shadowing experiences linked to the JAG National curriculum modules to enhance student learning and employability skills, to gain employment in their chosen career field.
- Contact graduates and non-graduates (at least monthly) and employers (three times) during the 12-month follow-up period; maintain contact with multi-year participants during the summer months to increase the probability of their returning to school and graduating.
- Performs other duties as assigned by site administration and CTE department leadership
- Great People (Talent Management):
- Participate in ALL required JAGOK meetings, trainings, professional development workshops, and the JAG National Training Seminar (NTS).
- Great Culture (Systems Leaders):
- Create a school Advisory Committee for the purpose of recommending and referring participants to interview for the JAGOK program and be accepted into the JAGOK program.
- Market JAGOK to local employers, businesses, and industry through one-on-one communication, student/specialist presentations, classroom speaker opportunities, and news and social media.
- Great Systems (Support & Accountability):
- Advocate for the program and develop a pool of effective community support resources by working with employers, parents, civic groups, and legislators to build awareness of and support for JAGOK.
- Coordinate activities with community agencies to assist in meeting individual student needs.
- Compile data and complete reports necessary for program operation.
- Secure and properly file all student records. Provide personal and confidential information for screening in accordance with FERPA, and local and state laws governing those working directly with students in schools
Job Specifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities):
- Current Oklahoma Teaching certificate in Career Tech Education
- Basic knowledge of computer technology and data input
- This is a 12-month-per-year teaching position
- Relevant experience may be substituted for formal education at a 2:1 ratio. Therefore for every 1 year of college lacking, 2 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted.
Physical/Mental Requirements:
- Must have adequate manual dexterity to write legibly and perform required duties on a computer.
- Must have adequate visual acuity to read, interpret and transcribe written material and other required duties.
- Requires normal range of hearing and clear speaking abilities to interact appropriately with others in person and on the telephone.
- Requires some stooping, bending, stretching and occasional lifting not to exceed 25 pounds.
- Sitting for prolonged periods of time.
- May periodically require work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, under sometimes. stressful conditions in order to meet business needs and strict deadlines.
Work Environment:
- Office duties will be performed in a well-lighted, climate-controlled environment.
- Will require time in office, as well as external meeting locations with community partners or schools throughout the OKC metro area.
- May require participation in meetings and activities outside of normal business hours, including weekends and holidays.
- May be required to work overtime and weekends and holidays.
- Able to bend and stoop, lift 25lbs, stand and/or sit for extended periods of time.
