Function / Position Summary

Work directly to support the District Autism and Behavioral Consultant and ILP Teacher Leader with implementing and modeling aspects of ILP based instructional, behavioral, environmental supports. Serve as a program-wide support for students and staff in ILP (i.e. U-46 Program centering on Autism and similar developmental disorders). Perform duties and activities under direct supervision of a certified staff member. Uphold School District U-46 ICARE Standards. Maintain confidentiality of student, staff and department information within the school and community.

Job Duties / Responsibilities

  • Model and implement evidence based best practices in accordance with the recommendations of the District Autism & Behavior Consultant, as well as the ILP Teacher Leader.
  • Work cooperatively with the classroom staff and building ILP team in assistance in implementing recommendations and/or suggestions by the District Autism & Behavior Consultant as well as the ILP Teacher Leader.
  • Assist in embedding support to students, paras and teachers in the Instructional Learning Program.
  • Assist with data collection (including but not limited to: behavioral data, academic performance/progress monitoring, classroom checklists and inventories, procedural fidelity, and inter-observer agreement).
  • Maintain appropriate documentation of supports provided (including but not limited to: contact hours for students, teachers, and staff).
  • Model best practices for staff when working with students on the implementation of behavior intervention plans, data collection practices, and reinforcement systems consistent with research validated evidence-based practices within the ILP program.
  • Assist with environmental setup and design in accordance with U-46 trainings and practices within the Instructional Learning Program.
  • Provide both instructional and curricular supports (as needed).
  • Assist with and/or provide on-site and program specific professional development to obtain, maintain, and improve professional levels of performance.
  • Follow through on defined programs, procedures, and behavior supports.
  • Escort students within the building, when working directly with them to model best practices for the classroom paras or teacher.
  • Attend staff meetings and staff development activities as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education

  • Para Educator, Substitute, Professional Educator or Provisional Educator License required.
  • Minimum education requirement for a Para Educator License is completion of at least 60 semester hours of college course work or a passing score on the ETS Para Pro exam or two specific Work Keys exams.
  • Bilingual - Spanish/English (written/verbal) preferred. Certain assignments require Bilingual – Spanish/English.
  • Experience / Knowledge3 years of Paraeducator experience or classroom assistant for students with autism spectrum disorder preferred.
  • Experience with Autism, Communicative Delays, and/or individuals with behavioral needs
  • Experience in ABA strongly preferred (i.e. line-therapist or RBT)
  • Ability to collaborate with staff and students in a way that is productive and friendly
  • Ability to assist a self-contained program for Autism as a model for other staff
  • Familiarity with graphing and interpreting data (academic & behavioral).

  • Excellent physical agility and quick response time
  • Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, carry, pull or push heavy objects or materials.

Term of Employment

  • This is a 10-month position. Salary and benefits as established by the Board of Education and set forth in the collective bargaining agreement as applicable. Travel within the district is required.
