The Pre-Analytics Processing Technician II is responsible for manually processing laboratory specimens, performing daily quality assurance activities and maintaining equipment. As a part of the Cleveland Clinic Main Campus team, you will have numerous opportunities to explore educational development courses, advance the Professional Ladder and utilize comprehensive benefits that invest in your health and overall well-being.

A caregiver in this position works 3 p.m. -- 11:30 p.m. with some on-call and holiday shifts required.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Receive and access specimens into the LIS (Lab Information System).
  • Prepare specimens for analysis.
  • Perform manual processing (centrifuge, aliquoting and routine maintenance).
  • Perform problem-solving functions and be responsible for advanced problem solving/issue resolution.
  • Assume compliance with basic regulations (temperature monitoring).
  • Perform QA activities (pending log audit).
  • Retrieve, sort, track and deliver specimens.
  • Verify specimen receipt in the lab.
  • Use tracking software/devices.
  • Comply with safety SOP & regulations.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation.
  • Perform basic clerical functions (answer phone, etc.).
  • Communicate and document essential information.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • One year of lab experience
  • Associate degree or equivalent credit hours may substitute for year of experience

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Associate degree, preferably in Science

Physical Requirements:

  • Manual dexterity to perform specimen handling techniques and to take measurements
  • May require extended periods of standing, walking and/or sitting.
  • Handles and transports bio hazardous materials.
  • Visual acuity, including the ability to distinguish colors.
  • Must have normal or corrected vision.
  • Must be able to lift and/or carry up to 25 pounds.

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as defined in the exposure control plan.
