PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

Plans and administers programs designed to meet the diverse psychological needs of all students in order to enhance their educational success, and supervises school psychologists while assisting them as they execute their job responsibilities.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Special Education certified and non-certified personnel with an emphasis on School Social Work.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   1. Ensures that all actions are in concert with the Board policies as well as the mission statement, beliefs, objectives and parameters found in the Board’s strategic plan.
  2. Carries out such additional duties as required or as conditions necessitate.
  3. Participates in job training and professional growth opportunities in order to enhance ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
  4. Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.
  5. Provides leadership and consultation to assigned staff regarding the performance of their job duties and responsibilities
  6. Leads the process of recruitment and hiring of social work department staff and school social work interns
  7. Assists in creating and adjusting building assignments for social workers and social worker interns across the district
  8. Provides leadership, consultation, and technical assistance to social workers through individual contacts, small group meetings, staff meetings and written correspondence
  9. Coordinates referrals for social work consultations
  10. Provides consultation and technical assistance to teachers, administrators, parents, and the community at large on social/emotional disorders and related subjects
  11. Encourages the ongoing professional development of social workers by arranging, approving, and/or providing relevant training opportunities
  12. Recommends budget items to support appropriate programming that aligns with district initiatives
  13. Attends meetings and develops program options for students with special education disabilities within the Rockford Public Schools
  14. Assists in the writing and development of district procedures related to special education and social work services
  15. Works with outside agencies (i.e., universities, state, federal and local organizations)
  16. Assigns social worker designee for the Grief Response Team & serves as team leader at building level when directed by Executive Director of Special Education
  17. Coordinates summer IEP re-evaluation process
  18. Assumes any other duties as delegated by the Executive Directors of Special Education, who may make adjustments in the above-outlined scope of responsibilities.
  19. All actions must be in concert with the mission statement, beliefs, objectives and parameters found in the Strategic Plan adopted by the Rockford Board of Education

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

The Coordinator of Social Worker Services shall have met all of the requirements of, and graduated from an approved university program in school social work. Additional training leading to supervisory endorsement or an administrative certificate is also required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Moderate in-district travel as well as intermittent in-state and out-of-state travel. Intermittent prolonged and irregular hours of work.
